Knights Launch New Jerseys *Pictures*

Here we go, thanks a lot to Moore01, marathonstadium is proud to present the premiere unveiling of our centenary heritage jersey!

I actually really like it, it is quite similar to one of the St George retro ones, but it will be a cool tribute to 100 years of league in Newcastle.

Wow, that is really different. Does anyone have any idea what the Roosters one would look like? And again, with the CORL logo, will it be 'evened' out or will it be as shown?

Anyway, very St. George like, so some of our players won't look too out of place. :p

Its not so bad, i like it too James. Plus its a one-off jersey so it would be awesome seeing the boys run around in that.

haha agree on the Dragons, WES would feel right at home!

It is in Dragons colours that really sucks, I wish it had at least some blue

When the Knights entered the comp in 1908, there jersey was red and white. It had no blue what so ever.

so the Knights have been in the comp 20 years compared to 2 by the old newcatle team, so I think it should have had a least some blue, not saying as much as our usual jersey but some. But hey just my opinion.

Well it is celebrating the 100 years, not 20. So ideally, they would go with the 1908 jerseys.

I never said it was celebrating the 20 years, I said 100. I personally think that since The red and Blue has spent the majority of the 100 years (even though alotta years where missed) as the jersey colour it should be represented somewhere. I'm not saying everyone has 2 agree with me

Exactly what I was going to say.

I thought we originally wore Brown and Green in 1908...but i might be wrong...I might be thinking of another sport...I remember seeing an old Jersey, it had something to do with being afflilated with South Newcastle, and they are red and white, i thought it just was an old South Newy jumper, but it must have been the Central Newcastle side...

I agree with not liking the colours at all...but that is our history and do we really wanna spoil it by throwing some blue in there just so it looks better...I mean its all good, its history..we have worn our 1988 jersey a couple times in the past few years, so this one is ok!

I think we are just lucky to be associated with Easts and Souths and the other 1908 clubs...it is a real honour for Newcastle to be apart of that... So for us to show off the efforts the people of Newcastle made in 1908, thats awesome...

And remember we were close to not having Red and Blue, Brisbane wanted Red and Blue in 1988 but Arthurson gave it to us because Brisbane was late getting their preferences in and we were early...so it was meant to be, and since then the colours of Newcastle have been Red and Blue...We would have been Brown and Green otherwise...(well i am assuming that cause the colours of Newcastle Union and Soccer where that colour as well)

Some random Info:

However, behind the scenes negotiations continued and on April 11, 1908, (less than a fortnight before the opening round) The Arrow newspaper reported that Newcastle would be the eighth team in the premiership.

The Sportsman reported a few days later: "It is announced that the eighth team in the competition will be Newcastle and district up to Tamworth. This team will come to Sydney each Saturday. Each week finds the rugby league growing stronger, and the union climbing down a bit." The League had agreed to pay the team's travel and hotel expenses, as well as compensate players for any time off work.

Sporting the local rugby representative colours of red and white (in hoops) Newcastle joined the NSWRL and were apparently known by some as the "Newcastle Rebels". However, due to the inability to secure an acceptable local ground in the Newcastle area, the players had to travel to Sydney each Saturday morning for the afternoon game.

Newcastle played Glebe on April 20 at Wentworth Park in their first premiership game in front of a crowd of about 3000, with Glebe winning 8-5. Their first win came in round 3 with a 37-0 drubbing of Cumberland at Wentworth Park.

Newcastle also played games in 1908 against Baskerville's New Zealand "All Golds" who were returning home from their 1907/08 tour of England. The "All Golds" won both encounters - 53 to 6 in the first (under rugby rules) and 34-8 in the second. The New Zealand Maoris also paid a visit to the Hunter where they defeated Newcastle 15-2.

Newcastle were placed in the top four towards the end of the season after wins over Newtown (17- 8) and Balmain (28-5), however losses in the final rounds to Easts and Souths saw them miss out on the semi-finals.

While Stan Carpenter played one game for New South Wales, none of the Newcastle players gained selection for the 1908 Test series against New Zealand. Later in the season winger Bill Bailey was selected as a member of the first Kangaroo Tour party to Great Britain. He was joined by team-mate Pat Walsh when he was called-up as a late inclusion for the tour.

Bailey returned to Newcastle in 1909, while Walsh was convinced to remain in England by the Huddersfield club where he stayed for three years.

1909 saw Newcastle play three home games at the Newcastle Showground, the first of which was a loss to Eastern Suburbs 18-16.

Reading that article when it said bailey and walsh guess who i thought of...Brow and Green? i just can't imagine those premierships from a team in those coulors...I also agree with bedsey that it is a part of history (the blue) and it has spent more time on the jersey than the white did so why not have the numbers on the back blue? lol jokes

Yeah, I agree. And it's not like we will be wearing the jersey all the time, the heritage round next year is probably the only time we'll ever wear it, so I think it's awesome.

I actually really like it as a one off jersey! Will be great to see. Am greatly looking forward to heritage round.

Lovin' the new jerseys, especially the heritage round jersey.

I'll be buying mine, I got a $30 gift card from Rebel Sport for Xmas, so I'll be using that to buy a new home jersey when they go on sale.
