Kalyn Ponga discussion

If you go back and watch the first 2 games. I think you find KP getting the ball a lot more at 1st receiver. Getting himself involved in the game.

Since then, he has moved away from 1st receiver whether through coaching or personal choice, and just isn't involved in the game as much anymore. The ball is going to Crossland, Sharpe or Cogger and only 1 of them is actually an NRL half, and that one most agree is not any good at it.

I mean I don't think you need a coaching for dummies manual to work out if the first player getting the ball in hands is a ball runner and not a playmaker, than likely the chances of something great coming from them is minimal.

Look at Souths, they had injures his the halves and who did they move in to the halves, Latrell, one of their most dynamic attacking players. Yet we play our best creative, dangerous attacking weapon away from the ball as much as possible.
Everytime he gets the ball at first receiver now, he runs sideways for 5 seconds and puts a non threatening grubber in. (not even on the last tackle).

Friz is doing the presser with ponga not sighted
Wtf is going on

He probably couldn’t be bothered. I wish it was either a sign of a fight with the coach (I think KP being unhappy might be the one thing that could get Wests moving) or AOB being unhappy with him but I doubt it, the pair seem like 2 peas in a pod.

It's clearly a sign that he's unhappy with coach/team, but he's the 1.4M golden child, he needs to atleast give effort and play his part for the team.

Kalyn has only played 139 games. That’s a new spine combo every 2.6 games.

I knew it was bad, didn’t realise it was that horrendous

KP at first receiver, out wide attacking the scrum lines, doesn't matter at the moment.

KP is off, the team is off, nobody is running decoy lines, very little movement in the attacking line running at the defence, not deep enough, not running hard enough, everything not enough.

Can't expect KP to be effective when he has nothing to work from.

I expect him to at least try though and he hasn’t done that for weeks.

If Ponga was in there trying his hardest but being let down by those around him he wouldn’t be getting criticism. He’s actively avoiding getting involved though.

I agree, he certainly is.

Honestly not sure what is going on with things at the moment. When this first started I was asking if KP had an illness as he went from dominant to absent. But it's continued each week for the entire 5 looses in a row.

People keep saying he is not happy in Newcastle, and KP isn't doing anything on field to dispel that.

Sadly, might be a possible thing to be hearing soon enough, KP asking for a release.

I just don't know anymore.

I don’t think he’s necessarily unhappy because just a month ago he was saying how happy he was and playing well. I’m sure he’s unhappy now, but probably the same amount as the other players from losing 5 straight.

As much as I hate to say it, I just don’t think he’s a player that thrives when the going gets tough.

He can absolutely destroy defences when we’re on the front foot, but I don’t think he has the work rate or desire to try and change the momentum himself. We do have a lot of players who do try and do that, but unfortunately they’re not as talented so usually make it worse rather than better.
