Well he's not a professional player agent either ... sounds like he was just checking he had everything right in the agreements and some journo has got ahold of it and let their imagination run riot. Seems like Andre was just doing the responsible thing and checking all the i's were dotted in this circumstance.

Well, not exactly if he took it to the NRL!

Anyway, what really stands out from that story which is something the NRL should be sending a please explain to the Knights over, is that the TPA was signed at the time KP signed a contract, and magically the TPA ended when KP signed an extension.

But we all know the NRL won't bat an eyelid!

All third party agreements are registered with the NRL, but the NRL doesn't have anything to do with the 3rd party contracts.

No point going to the NRL to check on KP getting paid. It would be like an agreement between 2 parties getting given to a bank to keep the document, and hitting the bank up to find out what happened to the money.

Nothing to do with the NRL.

But what is to do with the NRL is the salary cap. It must amaze the NRL how many players suddenly get offerent contracts to do some work for a company, right at the time they also lodge a contract to play for a club, in the same area as the company.

I mean come on, the TPA for KP reportedly is from a company run by Gardiners besty, who has for a long time been a personality around the Knights and in the dressing room etc, and following this, Gardiner became on the board or involved with this company, director or whatever it was. Registered right at the time KP signs a contract with the Knights.

And the NRL, yep all good ratified!

Yes, this is what I'm saying, Andre isn't an experienced manager or agent so probably didn't quite know how to go about things.

It could have been using the previous contacts finish date as a sunset clause date. I know what you mean that it's odd as two separate organisations, but it's a related matter so it's not an unusual contract mechanism

The more I think about it the more suss it sounds….as James said earlier - best not to ask questions. 😅😂
 
To me it seems perfectly normal. However Kayln's lawyer/ accountant should have been clear on how his TPA's where effected by a new deal. Someone has dropped the ball I suggest and Kayln's dad is looking for someone to blame
 
You do understand according to the NRL, a TPA cant be a form of payment for a player playing for a club.

So a contract sunset clause would be a salary cap breach. And his TPA cant be affected by a new Knights contract.
 
The TPA was probably signed with him in line with that contract, he signed a new one and didnt go and renew the TPA. Would be pretty standard i reckon or how/when would they ever cease?

100%, considering that some of value of the TPA is tied to having the player play for club X, and would be diminished if they change clubs.

Phil Gould was talking about it on his podcast this week and how you can’t have affiliations etc. If he is to be believed I imagine that Canavaro became more involved with the club after the initial TPA was agreed. Upon signing the new contract it would’ve needed reapproval which the Knights knew they would never have gotten given his son is in pathways and his increased role at the club.
 
Just watching a profile / interview on Sam Tomkins who apparently had a Lisfranc injury roughly around the same age KP is now. He says it took him a couple of years to get anywhere near back to the form and confidence he had before the injury. 😓
 
I thought Ponga was very poor today. He is one the highest, if not the highest paid player in the NRL. Are we getting our monies worth? If he is on the reported 1.4 million per season, did we get $51 852 worth of play out of him today? No. His effort just wasn't there. I was very pleased when we signed him, when we resigned him, but right now I think he's in cruise mode. I've heard him say in interviews he doesn't watch the other games where as Cleary and many others study all the games. I'm starting to think like some have commented that the amount of money could be spent on a few quality players instead. Sharpe is capable of doing everything that KP is doing at the moment cause those magic KP moments are few and far between. As has been said elsewhere his foot injury wasn't an issue in the Qld camp. I think it's a lack of interest.
