Kalyn Ponga discussion

I think this behaviour of being above everyone or everything is ingrained into these guys from a young age.
From under 6s the best players are put a on pedestal above others. It carries on to school where the best players are put on same pedestal by coachs and teachers.
As young adults in the NRL nothing changes apart from now you are earning money and in some cases very good money.
These guys still think they are above everyone as adults in Newcastle its magnified a lot more then Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne because the town is a small rugby leauge mad environment. Its been goin on since 88 when i was same age as the 1st grade players they then use to walk around a venue like they owned the joint. Visiting team players use to do the same.
Itll be a tough fix for Parr or anyone.
 
Get the feeling that the truth will be well hidden by lots of lies.
We won’t hear anything in regards to accountability, punishment and everything will stay as is, Ponga Captain, Mann the Coaches favourite. Ponga will do the World Cup, play 12-14 games for Knights per season plus his 3 SOO and Mann will play any position that Obi requires.
 
Honestly I doubt Ponga will even be selected for the World Cup after all that time out ...

I'd have had him in there for Aus after Origin 3 if he'd played out the season, but he'll be coming up on three months without a game by the World Cup.

I think what is being said is, it’s unfair for Ponga and Mann to be publically shown to have been misbehaving and consequently drug tested when they may be entirely innocent.
. The days of mobile phones and videos have been around for a while
. If they haven’t taken drugs the test will show that or prove they did
. The non release of first time positive test leaves doubts of “are they or are they not” and only a second positive will
reveal the positive first
. Unfortunately the players put themselves in that precarious position
. Ponga would have known, if not himself, that Mann was on no alcohol rule and as Captain should have acted
. Mann as a Senior player should have known better

they also won't release a negative result if its the first time test. So if they havent done anything wrong they are still tarnished with the assumption of guilt which is flowing through this page at the moment. Even JSaf didnt cop this much when he ruined his season while drunk.

100%. Reputations have taken a hit permanently. The drug testing should have at the least been done privately without public knowledge. The two players can't win here regardless of what happened or didn't happen.
 
Something doesn't line up for me about this whole incident.

I was at the Del on Saturday night when the incident allegedly occurred, and I saw Kalyn and Kurt, both of whom didn't look groggy or anything.

When the bar closed at around 11:30, KP was with a girl (presumedly his partner) talking to one of the girls behind the bar in the corner as people cleared off the dance floor and were asked to leave by security.

Mind you at this point I had no idea where Kurt Mann had gotten to, but it just seems a little odd to me.
 
Yeah that’d make sense
I just remember there was talk of doing illicit drug testing in the off season in the new bargaining agreement in 2023



Edit: though the Munster/smith incident happened during the finals so probs still could’ve been tested or were and it wasn’t made public.
