Kalyn Ponga discussion

Michael Chammas running the story now that Ponga wants out, he guarantees Ponga wants to explore other options.

I wonder if Ponga was with the Roosters, or Penrith etc if we see these stories at all.
 
I’ve paid a bit more attention to player movement and alleged movement. And it seems to be mainly the lower clubs that are targeted. Jarime Bulur from the Tigers, Tino from the titans.

Last week Ponga was in talks with Warriors because he was seen with the CEO. I don’t care, and not fazed if Ponga goes anyway. But this is the media not Ponga. I’m sure he does not pay attention and you can see he rolls his eyes when asked “is he happy”

One day the media might have the “scoop” and he leaves, after about 1000 “alleged” he’s leaving! Can only laugh these Journos get paid to write this ****.
 
Surely the only way this happens is if the club sanctions it because they see a better use for his $1.4m, the player is contracted for another 2 seasons. And surely they want him for at least the 26' season, because if it works well, we'll want him for 27' and beyond.

Surely the club wants to see what it can do with the player after 6 seasons of playing him behind reserve grade halves? Lol what about how there were people who wanted to give AOB 'one more year', as though he hadn't already needlessly exhausted/wasted the tenure of either ageing or frustrated star players e.g. Gagai, Frizell, Ponga, Thompson etc.

The club was in terminal decline and Ponga was apparently comfortable with everything and now he wants to leave when there is finally something to be excited about. I dont get it

While, like Frank, I don't want to give credence to yet another KP wants out story, the way this one has evolved is genuinely weird. He was at an event also attended by McFadden and was pictured talking to him, so that becomes a story. Events around the picture completely debunk the theory he wants to play for the Wahs. Then a journalist writes an opinion piece where he says he "feels" Ponga wants to explore options and by the end of the piece he's managed to convince himself that he can "guarantee" Ponga wants to explore options. All because of the original photo where there is no story. And it sights previous non stories about R360 and the roosters as some sort of evidence. Come on, just the facts madam, just the facts.

If he does then it favours us as we free cap space and then have a better balanced squad

In saying that Chammas is full of crap and just makes up stories on the daily
 
Chammas has been saying that consistently long before this latest Warriors photo to be fair. Haven’t heard his latest bit on it but as of a week or two ago he was saying Ponga is still putting feelers out elsewhere and that the Knights are open to moving on as well, but neither party wants to make the first move because they’d lose leverage.
 
It would be nice to get rid of him before preseason kicks off rather than speculation all year.

Sad as we haven't seen his best in 2 years and would kill watching him tear it up for someone else.
 
Funny chammas claiming to be in the know only after a random photo is taken. Its all ******** as per usual. In saying that ponga out tino in works for me 😁
 
No one can afford him for 2026.
No team has a lazy 1.4 mill of salary cap at this stage of the season.
The only place he could possibly go is Union or the new thing.
The good news if he wants out is he will be trying all 2026 to sell himself to a new club by playing out of his skin.
 
I cannot believe some of our supporters still want KP moved on despite finally having a solid team on paper (the best we have had for well over a decade). I know we need forwards but the best available - Tino, Is NOT coming here and it’s a pipe dream to think he would entertain us, he is going straight back to storm in the hope to win a premiership.
 
Ponga out and we can get Tino, I would take that. But as Billy said who can take Ponga now for 1.4 million? Highly doubt this will happen. And Chammas can pull the other one.

Both options work on paper

But yea, why the club would want to let him walk now just when we've finally put together a decent team, is beyond my understanding.
 
I have stopped being concerned about media speculation around Ponga. Unless there is something concrete about him leaving, I’m not going to give it a second thought.

At present he is contracted with us and we should continue to plan around him being here until the end of his contract.

If he does leave early, then we can change our plans.

Yep it’s been like five years of media BS on this, at this stage.

Ponga has never once indicated that he is leaving.
The media speculation around him leaving every 10 minutes is bordering on harassment and definitely falls into the category of stupidity and wishful thinking, with the ultimate view of destabilising the Knights as a football club.
