Kalyn Ponga discussion

Robbie O was in an all-around better side and played with an Immortal. Ponga is more talented. At 27, he still has plenty of years before he is done. Whether that is at Newcastle, who knows? If we keep performing poorly, it's probably in everyone's interest that he moves on. But super disappointing if it comes to that. A lot will hinge on next year with Dly here, if we are a contender. Miles away from that atm.

Agreed. Robbie O at FB and K Gids has a mortgage on the 14 jersey.

I seriously wouldn’t be bothered if he moved on and we used the money on a capable 7 and a very good middle.
What we should have spent Browns money on in the first place .Don't know who you will find now ?

ponga will leave. Which is a shame because if he played out his career with us he will go down as the second best player in our history.
The real shame is that we will have completely bottled 8 years with 'the 2nd best player to play for the club' by pairing the player with a rookie coach who couldn't / wouldn't attract a single decent halfback to the club for enturety of his tenure. What a ludicrous and unacceptable failure.

And what has the club and its fans done? We've conjured endless contorted rationale to explain 'why we don't need a decent halfback to win a comp'. It's just a dumb lie.

I've seen all of Robbie O's career and Ponga's.

Ponga certainly has the higher ceiling, higher skill level.

But if we are picking the best fullback for the Knights. Has to be Robbie O for mine.

For one KP isn't really a dedicated fullback, Robbie O was and was outstanding.

Better is always subjective and very different eras. Robbie deserves the accolade.

Kalyn is far more talented than Robbie O, though I get the sentiment 💯.

I don’t think anyones asking KP to single handedly carry the team to a win. It’s more the fact that he is clearly not putting his mark on games.

There were multiple games in previous seasons even when we weren’t playing at our best where he would charge the ball back from kicks. Most games now he’s literally falling to the ground for a voluntary tackle.

I’d tell him to start simple, do what every other fullback in the comp does and attack from kicks when there is a scattered line. Stop jumping and falling to the ground, he deadset does it when the defensive line isn’t close to him a lot of times. Get some confidence in your running game, he should be unstoppable in open space. Stop passing to Schiller off kicks, attack.
