Jayden Brailey

we must have the highest player turnover ever.
Last year I thought we needed 2 or 3 signings and we got about 10.
this year I was thinking 2 or 3, and now i'll be surprized if it isn't 10 or 15 again.

Think any signings to make up top 30 will be minimum payment types even if it is 10+ signings.
Two already gone, Four reportedly going and others walking the tightrope such as Guerra, Gavet, Jones, Randall, Gagai, Cooper etc so could be 10+ easily

Levi, Brailey, Watson, Mann, Burther, Griffon,(Ponga5/8th). That's a lot of utility players we trying. Feel like every year we talking who is the best spine/winning comb for Pearce.
The first year with Pearce fair enough but coming into round 20 second year and still signing Utility players? Pearce is 30 got maybe 3-5 years in him depending on injuries. We need to stick on a combo and start thinking about making finals otherwise signing probably the best halfback we had in 10 years mean nothing. Then another rebuild:(

To be fair, with how Ponga plays, he's been Pearce's partner the whole time & he's the one Pearce needs the combo with. Yes we do need to find consistency in the five-eighth position, preferably someone who can do simple kicks & passes when needed, but they're not nearly as important as Pearce & Ponga together.

Ponga can't be pearces partner if he sticks to the left side virtually exclusively. We need to have someone who can attack the right side and give us another attacking option, another kicking option, both long kicking and short attacking kicking.

At the moment on the last, everybody knows it's going to Pearce. And if they can shut him down, our other options tend to end in a bit of a calamity, a poor end to the set.

Compare us to the roosters. Cronk halfback keary 5/8. When cronk retires keary takes over with Kyle flanaghan. Combinations are will already be developed. Wish we were that organised.

We signed Watson as our running 5/8 but didn’t work out, had a few trial that position not all running 5/8’s we got rid of Lamb and Cogger because we didn’t fit or like, not the type we wanted, so who is that type.
I think Ponga will be our 5/8 next season with an early start in trials, our full back could very well be Hoy. Lino is back up for 6 & 7 or Ponga don’t work out.
Watson is 14 unless injuries and based on that we don’t need to buy unless it is definitely to our advantage.

We let go 4-5 players that came through our juniors that over a few years showed huge potential, Lamb, Cogger, Meaney, etc but we continue to malign them. Ok they didn’t quite make it or more likely didn’t fit our type we wanted but all were very good players that may have been just short of what type or style was needed. Some are playing 1st grade now other are injured or have not gone on. It’s time to let them go, wish them success and stop knocking someone that had the potential to make first grade even if not on a regular basis, if only we had the ability they have.

Levi, Brailey , Griffon Arnt utilities they are all hookers and Burher was bought as a back rower although he has been used as a utility a bit even Watson was bought as a 5/8 not a utility although he turned out to be a better hooker although I personally still like him at 5/8 .

You get my point though, even with the hookers we been swapping around that's hooker and 5/8 position changes all the time. Not sure if its just the way teams are trained or managed these days, but Buderus, Cameron Smith even Farah were 80 min hookers that's one less interchange to use. You would think with players these days going to the gym every day have the stamina to play hooker 80mins. But again maybe this is all tactical game plans coaches doing now days.

Doesn’t really matter if 80 mins or not still have to have cover in case of injury, especially early in game that is where your 14 utility player like a Watson comes in, covers a few positions and if utilised properly can be a real asset.

Yeah I agree I always thought an 80 min hooker was a must .
I don't see why Watson cant do 80 min he looks about as fit as he can get and he has played there enough now to be getting the hang of it , work rate wise anyway .

That cut-out bullet pass to SKD (if he catches he scores) when Ponga swung around to the right was phenomenal.

Ponga has shown he has a lethal pass on both sides, learning which side to pop up on will come soon enough.

I don't think we'll see him tied to the left nearly as much.

Definitely. As great as he is, he is ~21 years old in his second full season, virtually carrying the team with Pearce. He'll get better with age and will be more confident to attack on both sides, and the players around him should improve as well. I think by next year, our right side attack should be much better. With another offseason to train and perhaps some stability on the right edge, we should be more slick there.

Was great to see him over there on the right side a few times last game. Hopefully that continues.

It did look good.
But the refs called it forward.
