Jackson Hastings

He’s had a few convos about nrl greats with the rugbyleagueguru recently the bloke loves footy but also knows how to articulate what others can’t.
I’ll be astounded if this club makes a no brainer by getting him to the club, I’m very sad to see klemmer go if that’s what’s tabled but to find a competent front rower is alot easier than finding someone to play 7 properly.
 
Klemmer will somewhat be a loss but the club desperately needs a half otherwise 23 is going to be another wasted season.
 
If we land Hastings I'm starting to actually look forward to next year. The bloke is tough, competitive and a student of the game. He has gone from a pretty arrogant kid to a leader. Couldn't be happier with this signing. (If it happens).
On a side note.
Injuries are starting to happen more often to klemmer. He plays the game hard. Which is why we love him but it could be starting to take a toll on his body.
I think it will be a good deal for us.

For the money he is on Frizell doesn’t do enough with the ball and I wouldn’t call him a defensive specialist either.

I agree 100%. But Frizell took up his option for 2023 and would have to agree to the move, which seems unlikely. Klem on the other hand seems keen for a longer deal than the Knights are willing to offer.

Ease up mate. I never Hastings was better than Townsend. I was just saying last year Townsend wasn't playing great footy so when the cowboys bought him on a huge contract alot of people thought it was a questionable signing. Turns out it was a master stroke. Hastings has every chance of being a good player for newcastle.
 
Hahaha yeah no worries. We have to sign him first. But when we do ill have to let him know that Chad Townsend will up high with a full stomach just waiting to empty himself on him. Hahaha.

One thing going in Hastings favour is that of the 4 games they won he was the halfback in 3 apparently, so that’s a better strike rate than Brooks at 7 who was in the 7 for no wins.
Hastings sure won’t be the complete answer but the best for next year and with Clune off contract at end of year then I’m sure the hunting for an even better 7 for 2024 will still go ahead

it says more about the Tigers that they don't see Hastings as a halfback then it does about us.

He is an out and out halfback and improved the Tigers no end when he played halfback.

We desperately need a game managing halfback, much like the Cowboys needed, so you went and got Townsand. Not saying Hastings is as good or will have the same impact, but he is what we need

That’s for the hierarchy to sell to the Tigers. They are wanting a forward while letting it be known Hastings is good to for for the right price/offer. Safs are younger and origin repped. If the Knights can’t sell that then they need to find a new job.

Townsend had credit in the bank on and off the field. Hastings has now been through nearly a handful of NRL sides with each of them happy to see the back of him while not providing much on the field. The only time he has been a good player in the top grade was in England where reserve grade halves over here look like superstars over there.

Brooks was his starting halves partner in 2 of those games.

Hastings played 16 games for 7 try assists.
Brooks played 17 games for 2 tries and 10 try assists.

Meanwhile for people mentioning Townsend in 2021 played 16 games for 14 try assists (while not playing great footy) and in 2022 26 games for 2 tries and 20 try assists with a team the majority of the NRL world thought would come last.

Ummm no bait at all, I wasn’t the one that brought up Townsend. You might need to go back and read the posts mate.
