Finals Week 2 vs Warriors - 4:05pm Sunday 20th of September - Eden Park

IMO, the only call the bunker got wrong was the sin bin (given the treatment of other similar incidents this season), but much of the media will be ragebait about the Wahs being dudded.

I really do think the NRL should reinstate the Monday morning review...only with the caveat that if the refs or bunker do get something wrong, they own it, identify if changes need to be made if it's a repeated or ongoing problem and remind everyone that no game can be officiated perfectly and then move on.

No fullback would do that because you're inviting the ref to flub the rule and there are no question marks about it when the ball simply trickles over the dead ball line, but the rule is a player whose foot is in touch counts as out of play.

But yeah in both cases the ball was already over the dead ball line, it doesn't matter if it's played at or not there.

This might be where it gets a bit confusing, because you did used to be able to do that ... if the ball was moving, you could put one foot over the dead ball line, touch the ball, and it was a 20 metre tap. This was maybe late 90s/early 00s. But fullbacks got very good at that to defuse grubbers (which were a lot more common back then for some reason), and I dunno, the league didn't like it for some reason, so they changed the rule so that even if the ball is moving and you have one foot over the line, it's dead off you.

It doesn't really make sense with the consistency of the rules, it's a different rule to the sideline I think, but that is the rule as it stands, as far as I know.

Now I'm feeling confused by it all too. 😂
 
I don’t have the best understanding of the rules, (I’m still here asking questions most weeks on the intricacies)…

But, on first glance, I was a little confused, cause I thought DWZ jumped from in field, and batted it back. So the ball was still live.

Then it hits Ponga and is dead. I admit, I thought it was coming back to a drop out.

Or, is it like a kick off, if a players foot is on the line and they touch it, it’s deemed out on the full, not played at last by the player who touches it…

Or does it come back to Ponga not playing at it.

Confusing!
 
I’ve got to put my hand up, I thought the grittiness had gone from our game. We are obviously so much better than last year in pretty much every aspect but I thought our goal line defence and ability to absorb pressure was pretty much gone. The last 2 weeks our goal line defence has been sensational, probably better than anything we had in the AOB era. Cannot wait again for this Sunday, secured my tickets and hoping there is 30k+ knights fans there.
 
God I wish they’d ban ref decision questions at press conferences.

They can’t do anything about them, it’s boring. Make them answer questions about the things they can control, like their performance and strategy.

Have a separate press conference with the NRL about refs decisions if everyone’s that interested.

Do other sports concentrate so much on ref decisions. To me the NRLs just making a rod for their own back. Journalists are lazy and just want to focus on the easy, outrageous stuff. Take it away from them and do it separately. It’s not for coaches and players to determine rules and calls anyway, they can only give their opinion and of course they’re all going to side with their team, duh.

I don’t even get why they’re all so worked up about the Frizz thing at the end. Leka tries to milk it and failed.

Sharpe caught it easy and Frizz ran with his hands out to catch it, not his fault he can’t jump plus you can’t judge intent and they really don’t want to open that can of worms

Yeah I also had in my head "was it effectively out on the full when it hit Ponga, even though it wasn't a kick".

But that was the same in the Roosters game, so I don't think that applies to non-kicks.

Honestly the refs have such a tough job, even with the rulebook and time to analyse it all, we're still lost haha.
 
Warriors peaked against the Panthers in Indigenous Round.

The longer the week went, the more I thought we'd win. Crossland going from forum punching bag a few years ago to literally a unsung hero for the club and saving us multiple times yesterday.

They're a good side the Wahs, but definitely had a bit of 2025 Canberra about them and quite a one dimensional side.

Yeah exactly, it’s finals football and they’ve put the whistle away more which happens, less penalties and six agains.

If they hadn’t been so focused on trying to milk penalties and spent a bit of that energy on trying to work out a way to win, they probably would’ve done so. Not sure why they didn’t just keep blasting through the middle, there was a few times there where we were barely holding on but then they’d start going sideways and we could handle that

While I thought he was ordinary, hats off to him because I thought he was ordinary both ways.

I carry on in the heat of the moment, but when I stop and think about it, I do feel for the refs. We watch on tv with the best view while they’re trying to see every little thing that happens at full pace from one angle. It’s a thankless job, I don’t know why anyone would want to do it.
 
Some of the Wahs fans throwing cans at the refs coming off was ridiculous. I hope this gets brought up by the media. It’s a game of footy calls goes boths ways weather they are right or wrong. Yeah as fans we can blow up at refs calls but throwing objects at them as they come off is another level.
 
All year long the Warriors have been getting the better of the 50/50 calls as well as the 'six agains' and the Penalties. They are filthy because they had the Fins beat and went missing and had a decent chance against us. I can't think of too many games this year where we have had the better of the penalty count and the 'six agains' and yet still managed to play attacking football. I'm not a fan of Klein but I thought he had a pretty decent game and didn't buy into the player's complaining or the crowd.

Ashley Klein probably reffed the best game I’ve seen in a long time tonight. He didn’t take any gamesmanship in terms of people laying down, he didn’t let people approach him whinging, he didn’t make the game about him.

Wonder if the poor crowd behaviour has a bearing on New Zealand getting a second team

PVL won’t like that, effectively bringing the game into disrepute
