Ex-Knights Watch

Are any of these ex-knights players in other teams better than what we have?

With the exception of Tapine who left for $$$ nine years ago the answer is no, so who cares.
Yeah this is the thing that always gets me. Would anyone prefer to have Keeley or Hosking over Kai Pearce-Paul? I’m assuming no. So… what are we talking about?

Tapine is absolutely the only one which smarts, even allowing that he took a couple of years to come good at the Raiders. Genuine top 5 prop in the comp who you’d give up both twins for no drama at all.

I guess you could call Hudson Young a loss too but there were serious extenuating circumstances there.

How would a best 17 of current and ex Knight players that are currently still playing look like?

1. Ponga
2. Young
3. Gagai
4. Best
5. Marzhew
6. Gamble
7. Hastings
8. Barnett
9. Brailey
10. Tapine
11. Frizell
12. Fitzgibbon
13. Watson

14. Crossland
15. Pearce-Paul
16. Klemmer
17. J Safiti

Still question marks over 6, 7 and 13 but a pretty strong team.
One could dream 😀

A few yes

Hudson young
Dom young
Saluo
Josh king
Nick meany
Barnett

Just to name a few. Unfortunately it’s the juniors where we really suffer. Hudson young would walk straight into our forward pack as a starter. Simi sasgi looks to be going well too

Connor Watson is very overrated.

Yeah all those names tell me we’ve done a pretty good job of keeping what good players we’ve got. Some of them like Barnett are doing well elsewhere, but probably needed that change of scenery to produce what they have. And If our highly paid twin prop actually performed he’d be better.

When you’re complaining that we lost Saulo (and I was a fan!) and Sasagi, there’s not much to complain about.

I think though it’s what we have coming through now in SG ball that we need to hang onto they’re a decent crop but of juniors.

The other guys like Bryan, Cant, Martin they’re first graders I’ve watched a lot of reserve grade but if we don’t start blooding those guys I think their development will come at our expense at a rival. Oryn keely is a big loss despite his injuries and rumours about his attitude. His an NRL player and in a position where we haven’t really developed anyone elite in a long time. Most our back rowers apart from Fitzgibbon have been imports a position we used to be incredibly strong in when we had Simpson than Newton coming through.

Depends on the game plan but one that involves throwing the pill around and playing uptempo he would be an asset.
In saying that I did have a question mark over him 😀
I think the fact he’s constantly injured is the biggest issue for me.

6 and 7 are trash. That line up looks like a great athlete with no brain to manoeuvre it, so just crap. Yeah they had a great year last year but something absolutely stinks at the club at the moment and these two are massively effected by it.

Our halves, particularly Hastings and Gamble are likely our best but are nothing without Ponga chiming in and creating something, lose Ponga lose game.
Ponga has been injured at least last two games and we have floundered, it’s his threat that creates the danger that allows Hastings especially to create the gaps for Ponga or others using Ponga as the threat.
Ponga fit and well is only dangerous if halves are creating him space and halves can’t create if Ponga isn’t fit and firing.
