There's talk this morning of Dylan Walker being squeezed out of the Rabbitohs to accommodate the signing of Sam Burgess. What do you all think of this?

I'd almost be tempted to throw the book at him and would be prioritising his signing over the likes of Tolman and Farah. I still feel Mamo isn't ready for a first grade fullback position and would like to move Gagai there. He's impressed me in the handful of games he's played in the number 1 jersey throughout his career, can get his hands on the ball more and Mamo can bide his time on the wings.

There's the whole painkiller saga but I'm not too fussed about this, plus he'd fit in well with the rest of the team of misfits and delinquents. He may not even entertain the idea of moving up to Newcastle but there's no harm in chasing him if we have the money. A potential backline of:

Gagai
Mamo
Mata'utia
Walker
Uate
Mullen
Hodkinson

... actually has me salivating and given time could be extremely devastating. No idea if his ideal position is on the left or right side so we could be left a little unbalanced. Also he doesn't seem like the type of player who's adept at setting up his outside man (though I'm sure he's no Junior Sau). To me he's more of a damaging ball runner but he's only young and with time can develop this part of his game. With that said I don't watch many Souths games and I could be way off point with this.

I haven't seen many Souths games, particularly this year, either. Was he very good anyone?

I'm put off him after his frankly disasterous Four Nations last year (although admittedly, like Sione, I don't think he should ever have been there in the first place).

Snowden and Sims are adequate starting props. Our depth is a little light, so I'd rather be scouring the market for a cheap and dependable prop, in the Fa'alogo mould, than someone to lead our forward pack.

I think it would actually be detrimental to Sims career if he was demoted back to the bench; assuming he'd be the guy to take the fall. He was one of the surprise packets of last season (along with Stockwell) and imo he's earnt his spot on the starting lineup. If he keeps up with his development, he could be a very damaging ball runner, and a perfect foil for Snowden's slower lumbering style.

And yeah I agree I highly doubt we'd get Walker but one can dream!
 
According to every rugby league source ever we've got bugger all room to move in the salary cap due to us stupidly upgrading contracts which to me sounds like utter bullpoopy. If the Roosters, Bunnies or Broncos can have unlimited cap space why not us? Disrespect I tell ya. I'd bring him here for sure seeing as we've got hardly any back-line depth now.

I've been hearing this as well but I find it ridiculous. How the hell do we go from letting go of Gidley, Leilua, Scott, Clydesdale possibly Lowrie, Houston, Smith etc. and still not have money in the bank?! How much are these f'ing Mata'utias on?!! Ok some of the players we released may not have been contracted for next season but we should still have some wiggle room.

The only sensible response to this is if we're front loading a whole bunch of contracts and plan to make a big splash in the player market in 2016. But I find it hard to believe our management would have this level of forward thinking.

Do you mean a big splash in 2017? According to Brown we're going to be even worse then ... so if anything we must have been back-ending contracts. It was definitely mentioned that Hodkinson's was heavily back-ended when we signed him.

That's absurd. No way we're going to be able to hang onto our juniors when the time arises to resign. I guess Brown has to make some difficult decisions with our roster, which most likely won't be popular among the fan base. As much as I Iove watching Uate and this guy was the only reason we were winning for a number of years, he'd have to be the first person on the chopping block.
 
I'm from Sydney. I'll help him pack and move to Newcastle. This team is in desperate need of some quality. Whether it's Tolman, Farrah, Tolman or whoever else I don't mind but we need something. My preference however would be a quality prop tho.
 
We don't need to put more money into our backs.
Despite letting a lot of good ones go, we are still covered 10 ways to Sunday in the backs, and if the last few years have taught us anything, it should be that we need to have the bulk of our money in spine players and forwards.
Next year we have two top shelf halves, and if the forwards can get them some room to move and the hookers can give them some clean ball, the bloody backs will take care of themselves.

Yes we do we have jack blit atm.
 
We've got, as Lord said, 'jack blit' backs atm... we have only have 2 first grade ready centres, both who can't defend and play better in positions other than centres. Uate, is our only first grade ready winger (providing McManus retires) then we've got fringe first graders who aren't all that in Chanel, Mamo, Ross and Pat. Chanel having thw biggest upsize IMO.

Plus we have no fullback.

We need backs.

Uate shouldn't even be in first grade half the time, but that half the time is when he's usually injured.
 
with 23% of the salary cap going to gagai, uate and sione i don't think we're in a position to throw good money after bad.
 
With McManus retiring (along with all our other losses) and Souths making room for Burgess' return, Walker may be a really good chance. Souths would have to pay some of his contract too so we wouldn't have to worry about overspending you'd imagine.
