Was that incident which also led to his season ending neck injury in 2003?

i just watched the replay of his initial tear back in 2024. He looked in considerable pain.
This time it seemed more resignation and he knew his fate. Kind of implies the original was a considerable tear.

I’m surprised they don’t operate on athletes with partials, think Sam Walker had a similar timeline - progressed to full rupture a year later (Now QLD halfback…maybe we get the same surgeon…). But I’d have almost thought the risk of more damage to meniscus/collateral would be enough to sway them.

Anyway. Probably targetting May 2027 return (by this season that’s around Round 9. Maybe Round 12 with a month of games in Cup. Never a good time, but most players have a very tentative first year back, so it might be good to get half a season in, and be back to his best in 2028.

That is our plan B.
If Brown is out till potentially mid season next year - what is our plan C?
Gamble is gone.
Hunter will need a massive off season in the gym.
Mitch Henderson is clearly not seen as a viable option.
Rosemeyer seems to have been dropped from Flegg.
Chase Butler is 18.

My thinking is we have too many hookers, so I'd have Crossland working really hard on his halves skills all off season, just in case we need a plan C, or try to find a cheap half for 6 months - and I think we'd struggle to find a minimum wage half who is better than Mitch Henderson - Maybe Jock Madden?

I think it was iirc but apparently Joey did play in the next game against the Cowboys in Townsville where they won 60 to 24 with a 48-0 halftime lead before being put on the shelf for the remainder of that season.

Two specialist back up halves is a pretty standard amount of depth, if we get to a point where we have to play the next guy on the depth chart after Smith/Hunter for an extended period the season is probably gone anyway.

But yes I think the answer is Crossland filling in in the halves with Graham starting at 9.

Madden is signed with Tigpies for next year already, I believe.
 
Could Graham be our 2027 backup 6-7 with Hagan our backup hooker giving Hunter a bit more time to mature and be ready.
Like to keep Crossland at 9.
A lot will depend on how early or late Brown is ready
The plus with Browns injury is that Sharpe will be long term 6 and Hunt/Votano the likely cover for Ponga

No he hasn’t and I don’t understand why people would want Graham as our third choice half/five-eighth

I mean I get injuries so having Graham be able to jump in just in case Smith or Sharpe get injured would be good but he has never played either position from what I can tell and would limit us.

I would prefer Crossland moving into the halves if Smith or Sharpe go down with Graham coming in at 9 and Hagan joining the bench.

That way we don’t have to do some dumb experiment with a random hooker being thrown into the halves

Seems more viable considering Crossland has a good boot and has played in the halves
