Dom Young discussion

Dom had a very short pre-season because of his broken foot.
I thought he would be below his best in the early rounds, but he looked as good as he was last year.
Turns out he probably was still building to top fitness in the early rounds, because yesterday was a whole new level for Dom I thought.
If he keeps that up all year we have to pencil him in as our all time best right winger.
 
He is such a weapon, those 3 tries yesterday, where he recieved the ball, no other winger in the comp scores those from those positions.
 
What makes Dom so deadly in certain scenarios, namely where the ball is already being carried at pace, is that Dom's mid-range acceleration is the strongest part of his sprint. He isnt particularly quick off the line and while his top end speed is fast, it is his mid-range acceleration that is elite.

It really favours 'draw and pass' situations where youve got a fullback and cover defence to contend with. Its why we have so much success from within our own half with Dom on that edge. And given his size, he is equally as deadly from close range because its nearly impossible to stop, with any control, 110kgs moving at that velocity

Refreshing to read a story about a player relishing playing at Newcastle. Usually it’s the reverse, and we have to read about players needing to get out of here to fulfill their potential. Makes for a nice change

Yeah I think if he had his time again it would have been a totally different story. For all we known he could have been lost to the nrl if he didn’t start at the knights!
It’s a good story to see the young poms work out in the nrl from a young age and not just chewed up and spat out

Some players just suit a club. Great we have a player that suits us and feels part of it all, even more so since it’s not a player that grew up here.

We do get things right sometimes!

Feel good stories like Dom's definitely gives positive vibes to the place which will hopefully assist retainment and recruitment. Not all clubs are the same or as positive as the Knights are.
 
Just thinking about 23 season. Can we dare to dream of us performing like that again? At full strength I think we are a stronger team than 23. We have more attacking weapons. This season so far is similar, Ponga out for the start of the year, the team performing, than he comes back and 💥 , we are flying! ✈️
