Dom Young discussion

Somehow not getting the same kind of a mention as he was a few years ago but yeah turns out that having Mr “Oh He’s Just Going To Score” back? Pretty good! His second half try, not many in the comp score in that position.
Was literally just looking at the points being handed out for this round on the forum and wondering the same thing. He was immense yesterday, albeit in a team full of massive performances. That second try was what a lot on here were lamenting we'd miss when he went. And the chase on Garrick late on was huge.

I went with Marzhew over Dom in the voting because I think his yardage runs went under the radar a bit. Ponga's try is great work from Smith and Best, but is just as much on the quick play the ball Marzhew generates on a hit-up from inside our 10m line. Just like Dom scores tries few others can, Marzhew impacts the game at the other end of the field in a way few other wingers can.

Glad they both look to have found form again at the same time.

Loved the chase on Garrick! Shrugging off Turbo is great for the highlight reel, but the chase in the 65th minute is what really excites me.

Honestly one of those games where everyone deserved 1-2 points so it’s hard to get everyone in.

Be nice to find a way to hold on to Greg a bit longer

Yeah I went with all forwards this week I don't think we had a bad player wouldn't be surprised if everyone that played might have got a point in the voting which has probably never happened

Don't know what was going on at the Roosters but his attitude is night and day here.
Just wasn’t as happy down there.

I will say, he really struggled with the Chooks defensive system. Robbo has long been really really insistent on his wingers staying home (in fact for whatever reason the only player you usually see rushing out of the line for them is the half).

Could be wrong but by eye test he seems to want what is basically the Panthers system where the edge defenders push up & keep a high line to cut down the space, but then hold, and slide if the ball does get past the back rower, so the inside defenders get time to come across. Thing is that it’s actually really really hard to execute well and asks a lot of your middles. Also demands heaps of connection, that’s why when Penrith were “off” for the first half of last year their D was deadset awful. Impregnable when executed well, more holes than Swiss cheese when not.

And yeah it seemed to go against Dom’s instincts. If he feels any doubt at all he’s making a play at the ball. If he signed for Brisbane or Melbourne, who both kind of simplify things into a binary of jamming in or paddling backwards and ceding ground depending on situation, I reckon he would have felt more at home. While AOB had issues with fitting the attack to personnel, I think he did alright with the defensive side, clearly players have license to go for the intercept. I don’t think Justin has changed much on that side.
