Dale Finucane

Signing Storm players is overrated. Especially for us.

800k a year is absurd. Surely nobody is stupid enough to pay that.

$800K for Finucane is not where we need our money going - He is Glasby mark II.

At this stage of his career he is now a journeyman forward that is solid but very vanilla for mine...we already have a better 'Finucane' than Finucane and that is Frizzel who offers more diversity and capability.

For those sorts of $$$ and for that long, I'd want an Angus Creighton level player with his potential to continue improving in the modern evolving game - with his age, Finucane will continue to become less relevant as the seasons roll on.

I agree that’s not his value, and if we get him I hope it’s on a lower offer, but I’m not bothered if we get him on more money than we’re paying the Saifitis, Clifford, Brailey etc.

The way I see it, Mitch Pearce is coming into his last couple of seasons at the club, finally with a #9 & #6 playing with him who fit his game. We’ve got the best roster we’ve had since the 2000’s. We should be seriously trying to win the comp over the next couple of years. Otherwise what are we doing with all these incumbent rep players we’ve signed?

On a short term deal, just to further bolster this pack so it boasts quality and depth unmatched by every other team in the comp… sometimes you’ve gotta take a throw at the stumps I think.

I know we’re excited about players like Bailey & Phoenix, but they’re young, and bringing them into the team will mean forging new combinations, especially for KP who clearly likes playing with Pearce, and may be learning a new position as well if it’s Bailey who comes into the side.

Get Dale on a deal which ends when Klemmer & Frizell come off contract, then have a look at how we’re tracking & think about whether we want to keep chasing the trophy with those guys + Pearce, or let them move on and bring in some more big free agents, or maybe replace them with players we’ve brought up through the system if it’s all working as it should be.

TL;DR: Don’t think of his big salary as something which will take up a lot of cap space long term; think of him as an expensive short term rental we are looking to throw some disposable income at.

Lol, pass.

I wouldn't be interested in anything more than $600k at 2 years and even that's overs, take into account his at the Ben Kennedy stage where he plays 12 games a year as well.

I really am not interesting in paying the he's a good trainer premium.
