Now all im going to say about the Sharks financial situation is dont believe everything u hear and read. I've got a family member on the board, and its not all what the media makes out, they would make a story about someone ****ing on the toilet seat if they had to.
2 Years ago, they were equal first place finishers in the regular seasons, through most of the 90s and early 21st century, they made the 8 most years. So you can say they've just been some **** team whos gone nowhere, but sure they've not won a grand final, but thats not whats important in this point in time.
Think about the last 18-24 months of the club.
Bird was dismissed, wrongly, rightly, not important, that incident brought bad taste to alot of mouths about the club.
The sex scandal, they all got in and rooted a chick, willingly, few years later she cops flack for it, so sells her story, nobody wins but her, lives are ruined.
The CEO and all his crazy behaviour and stuff ups didnt help either.
The last 24 months have been a media feeding frenzy on the SHarks side of things, they cant catch a break what so ever.
Ricky Stuart is under contract, for them to sack him, they would not only have to pay another coach, they would have to pay him, new coach, same players, wont change much.
Salary cap, the club, is short of coin, but i know for a FACT they arent the only team in the NRL with financial woes, in fact, i wouldnt say theres any teams not in the red.
Sponsor ship played a big part of this, LG was a massive deal that went sour because of all the above incidents. Up until the Greg bird saga, the sharks were a hard to play team.
2009 was filled with injuries, and alot of the 2008 team departed. In experienced players were called up in tough times and were forced to try and keep the team from absolute humiliation. In 1 particular round, they had nearly a whole Toyota cup squad on the paddock for a first grade match.
The club is rebuilding, and there is things happening which will help bring sources of cash flow, sponsorshop dollars and club support back to what was a pretty solid club foundation.
2010 you can say is a right off now, but I wouldnt say the Knights, Eels or Broncos are miles ahead in terms of attitude and effort. last year Sharks played 80 minutes of football every single week, 3 games were robbed in dying minutes by poor refereeing. Which isnt uncommon. Confidence would be at an all time low, but can you blame them.
I think theres some comments in here that are not only false, but also just a pathetic way to kick them while they are down.
