Bronze statue of our immortal out the front of hunter stadium

Andrew Johns is the 8th Immortal a bronze statue needs to be out the front of hunter stadium by kick off 2013.

Surprised there isn't one already there, tbh, but I guess he has the stand named after him.

The entrance to Marathon isn't the best either. They might need to tidy that up a bit before erecting a statue.

The other traditional honour is to name a ground after him, and it would be funny to name the home ground of the Goey's after him.

If I were in charge I'd be building a carpark at the northern end similar to ANZ... Then I'd cut the carpark at the main entrance of HS and make a scenic entrance... Play grounds, walk way, history of the club etc. that's where the statue could play its part.

Anyone been to like the SCG? Suncorp Stadium... even around ANZ?

I just think there's enough room to really do the outside of the stadium up and make it look more respectable from the outside.

Some venues even have a resort style look with a cafe and pool, public gym and squash etc. Well just going off the SFS. That way it's used fairly often also.

What don't you like about it?

I would love to see a statue there!

Well like what Alicia says would be a good way to go, I reckon. It's pretty messy at the moment, there's not really a clearly signposted walkway entrance ... it's just dodge the cars and here's a gate.

Making proper shopping centre style parking would make it so much more easier. It could at least make more use of the space, maybe with help from other parties maybe even the council as parking is as issue but I doubt they would contribute haha. A statue with the current set-up IMO wouldn't really work out.

Am I the only one who remembers a couple of years back when there was talk of statues of Joey and Chief holding up the respective trophies outside the new stand? Maybe I dreamt it or something and they weren't actually discussing it, but I swear it happened, and I think it'd be a good idea.

Bronze? The only color for our immortal should be GOLD!!! Na I understand the price costs of that would be crazy. It's a great idea and hopefully someone in Knights management also realises this

I don't think they'll be re-redeveloping the stadium anytime soon unfortunately. Hunter Stadium is the only stadium I've been to with such a weird set up. Straight from the main street to the car park to the gates, a statue would never work in it's current state. I've been trying to think of a realistic solution but I can't come up with anything.

It's a shame they can't fix up the carpark and give the statue it's own little section since the capark is barely used anyway.

Surely they can create a gap in the carpark that you can walk through from the street to the back of the new stand, and then a decent path/walkway round to the other entrance? I don't think it would be that tough.

It's very much set up assuming everyone just drives there by car. With the increased use of public transport to events like this now, and the greater capacity of the stadium making it impossible to have enough carparks anyway, it's pretty outdated. I can't think of another modern, quality stadium like Marathon that I've been to which doesn't have a major pedestrian entrance.

Yeah that'd be the best way to do it I reckon James without costing much money or taking much time. Joey deserves it.

That Harragon and Johns holding up the trophy idea is sensational. They could add one of the Jets captain holding up whatever trophy they won, from the year they won it, too. Assuming he's a quality local player.

I live in brissy and probably head to every Reds and Wallabies rugby games so I've seen my fair share of Suncorp and its a fantastic stadium inside and out. There would roughly be 30 - 50m on the outskirts of the stadium with plenty of room for walking (needed with 30 to 40 thousand going to each game), green spaces and the couple of statues that are there. So easy to get in with a wide and direct path from the train station and a huge bus stop under the stadium

Imo, the Tudor St Entrance of the stadium should be reconverted into a walking plaza, with a public transport bus terminal replacing a third of the current carpark. Albeit, that leaves a potentially butt-ugly shelter structure interrupting the line of sight from the road to the stadium. If only the land N,NW of the stadium was unoccupied, you could easily transform the entire area into a sporting/event precinct with hotels and such considering the proximity to the Entcent.

I'm still dirty in regards to the loss of the World Cup bid - would've delivered us a truly world class stadium.
