Bring it back

Clubs follow the Roosters wonderful lead and let the kids run on again after the whistle, probably over 2,000 ran on and mobbed the players, but nice and friendly it looked unreal.
Yes a certain risk comes into this, but I noticed the gorillas were hovering around near the players in case of some idiot, there were a lot of 'older kids' on the field as well.
I haven't see this since the eighties, this is what the game is about.
The Roosters got 22,000 plus on a freezing cold rainy day, I think kids were let in free.
Bring it back clubs, we need stuff like this again, bring back the heart!

Well done Roosters, well done.

This used to be the best thing about going to sports when I was a kid. Running onto the field, grabbing the players, trying to get them to sign something ... it really made the players seem more human, even if you were just running off the field with them.

I also remember sitting on the field watching a one day international at the Basin Reserve when I was a kid. Over the fence, but behind the boundary rope. How things have changed ... I suppose the Monica Seles thing had a lot to do with it.

It looked like chaos. The crowd did not co-operate.

co operate? lol they did co operate, they ran on, mobbed the players, thats what its all about, you don't do anything stupid, just pat the players on the back, and get out of their way.
I thought it looked great, hope it comes back at other clubs.
This is freedom mate, I think you have grown up herded by security everywhere which I know is a right pain, but this is what it used to be like, fun, before all the security rubbish started.

You haven't heard then, there was a throwing incident with the referee.

I think it's great for the fans, annoying for an 80 minute player.

But I agree with you that it was good!

Possibly, but I think its worth the risk, we need to breath life back into this game, and this was a great start.

Yes, the ref, I think special measures will have to be put in place if they continue to allow this for ref protection, a couple of goons ready to race on to escort him off, adds to the excitement, bring it on.
Some of the players looked happy with the attention., this is the human touch we need I think.
I wonder if they would do it for a GF?

I like what they did but the way some fans act these days, all it will take is abit of grog in someone and things could go terribly wrong.

maybe get the players off the ground then let the kids on to have a kick?

Naah, the kids wont run on then, its all about getting to the players up close, just after they have played, and their covered in sweat, blood and dirt, the kids want to experience it, get an autograph if their lucky, then have a kick.

^ I dunno. At NRL Fan day earlier this year, all the players went off the field and the kids had a good play for about an hour.

U23 & K4P can back me up on that one.

Most people wont run on drunk because they know its a kids thing, plus no alcohol will be allowed on the field of course, yes there will be the idiots who ignore this, there always are but the security will take care of them, and leave the kids alone to have their fun.
When they were interviewing a player, he had two gorillas facing the camera right behind him, to keep the kids back.
There are a lot more positives in this than negatives.

Yeah I know I believe you, I used to run onto Lidcombe and have a kick when I was a kid its great, but its even better if you get to mob the players first, in a friendly way of course.

Can you two stop arguing and agree to disagree. I see both your points.

AK's view is that it is too much of a risk in this day and age, and if something went wrong it would end the whole thing. It only takes one person to stuff it up for everyone else.

Zephr you think that it is a good idea and that it doesn't matter so much about the risk as there is little chance that something will go wrong as there is security and that the NRL should do it to get numbers up.
