Bradman Best discussion

So if the rumours are true he’s only offered $700K by the club that is very disappointing. He’s currently on 750K his current contract, which he took unders. Surely the club should have set aside at least 800K for him. I’ll be devastated if we lose him.

Didn't take unders last time .Got Origen money before he played Origen . Club has always looked after him money wise . Always been injury prone. If he goes he goes!

And then the wage creep begins again and we become a meh club

Is there a chance his been offered 700k on todays cap with a ratchet? 25% increase in cap would take that to around 875k. New deal wont be in effect until new cap is in play.

We all know we have to lose a star, and I stand on the hill that Safiti is an absolute must keep for another 2-3 years. Our front row even with him is light, without him well it's just not a premiership winning team.

It may come down to us running Hunt and Winter to make up for the fact that we have Brown and Ponga in the same team. Also to keep the rest like Dom, Fletcher, McEwen ect.

We have never been more stacked in our history with name players.

Yeh, would absolutely love to keep him. But without knowing definite salary cap numbers it’s a bit of a risk to go “market” value.

He’s a great player when he’s on, and defensively sound most weeks. The problem - he’s probably a 850K-1M player if he played every game, week in, week out and played to his potential. Truth be told, we are probably getting 70% of a season, so it’s probably reasonable to factor in his injuries into our offer. If they were contact/unlucky injuries - **** happens, but I think it’s in our best interest to assume that the next 3-4 years won’t be any different in terms of games played - maybe he will get better though.

I’d probably rather ensure we have enough for Sharpe and Hopwood over be next few years than spend too much. We are already feeling a bit of a squeeze from Brown and Ponga and have a fair bit of talent that if they continue their trajectory are going to be in line for a pay rise.

TLDR, would love to keep him for the right price.

If you’re going to lose players, outside backs are the ones to lose. Would love to keep him, but a centre is much more replaceable than the spine and a quality forward pack.

With the way we play the game? Im not sure this holds. Best put on the most try assists by any player in the team this season and the only non spine player in the comp to do so for their respective team.

If we want to win a comp I reckon Best is very close to essential. And why let Best go? It'll cost us $700k just to keep Hunt.

All our most expensive players are signed long term. Im not understanding why we wouldn't attempt to sign Best on a 1 or 2 year extension so that his contract ends with Sharpe in 28' - we only need him for another season or two anyway

Interesting perspectives it’s either all in on keeping him or not really fussed. Ha

He is an elite defender and real solid play maker (as said with try assists) - I understand going all in to keep him.

But his injury prone tag I’m not a fan of, and centres are dispensable, only played 1 season over 18 games. Yuck, 700 makes sense.

Hypothetically if it was for next year, I’d hustle to keep him having lost Gags but for 28’ I’d let him go if price tag is too much and that can rely on Hunt/Winter becoming good.

Hunt reminds me of one those players that play 24 games a year, that is criminally underrated. Obviously gotta be a decent player first and foremost but we’re taking a 24 gamer Hunt over a 16 gamer Bradman same price tag? Give Hunt another season, I think most will.

We don't have to keep playing the same style no matter what though. A stronger forward pack next year should mean we aren't so reliant on long range tries.

Totally agree, Marzhew can't be our meterage guy forever, even during finals he looked a shell of himself.

Our prop rotation has always been mediocre for meterage going back to the vaunted days of the rotation of Daniel Tolar, Josh Perry and Adam Woolnough!

If details on prices are true this does make the Nikora signing at 6-700K not a great signing decision if that 100-200K could have been for Braddy staying.

I think he is no doubt an 800K player.

Not just tries, that edge falls to pieces defensively every time Best is out.

If we're going to win the comp it's because the team is full of rep players, I don't get people being so blase about losing one of them. In any case I think he was quite right to test the market given he was asked to take a pay-cut but I think he ends up staying anyway.

That’s my biggest concern, his defence. It’s top tier and vital in big games ie. finals. Against Penrith, who my partner doesn’t watch thought he is our best player.

We know Greg is a bit iffy without Bradman too

How is Hunt costing us $700k to re-sign, what's that number based on?

Magical numbers again. That said, I'd imagine there will be plenty of clubs in for Hunt, so I hope we can find the money to keep him.
