Sounds like the club have given him their best and he has been forced to reject it. And if he's now discussing it publicly it sounds like there's unlikely to be a resolution tbh.
POS is very good at his craft. The closer we get to Nov 1 the greater the motivation for the player to hold off. So if its not done fairly soon then we may be in trouble

At least we know now that we aren't screwing around with players. Theres our valuation, there's the offer.
There's a cap to what we will offer, which may seem like unders to some. But that is how we prevent overpaying. It looks alot like other big clubs. Not freaking out when a player doesnt accept the first offer and up it to the point it unbalances the side.
Those signed to huge contracts are your lifeline and are generational or irreplaceable. You gotta pay them big. Others need to fit in around that, or, like luai, go elsewhere for bigger dollars and bigger performance risk.

Yep, thinking like a big club is going to take some getting used to as a fan.
Thank goodness we finally are. The days of being held over a barrell by a mediocre first grader for a top-line contract because we can't attract anyone else or develop any juniors is hopefully long gone!
(Not that Best falls into the mediocre first grader category, of course!)

Don't reckon the Chiefs are a threat given he's just got engaged with a baby not even 12 months old. Sydney clubs are the danger, if we've offered say 750k is anyone blowing that out of the water?

My bigger concern with Bradman is how long rather than how much. I would be happy to keep him around a bit longer but stressed if we announced a deal that went till 2030.
I think extending Sharpe should be looked at over anyone else atm even if he’s off contract later - just lock him down now.
If the cap goes up to $15 million, I suspect that will mean Kalyn makes $1.6 millionish, Dylan on $1.3 million, and the going rate for rep tier running five-eighths with limited kicking games like Fletcher is about $7-900K atm (see: Ethan Strange, Ezra Mam), so scale that one up to the new cap and we’re looking at a millionish a season on his next extension. So $4 millionish of the 15 million dollar cap on those three.
Lucas I would imagine accepted something in the 700ish range if they reached a number both parties happy with, or 900ish under the new cap.
Great players to be heavily invested in for a long time, but it’s a heavy investment nonetheless, and I think you want to keep the cap sheet relatively free beyond those guys. I think the market for good middles is only likely to get tighter & on what Trey is showing atm, and what we all think Cody is, I think you have to earmark a pay bump for them as part of your cap projections (including a slight raise in the last year of current deals to induce them to re-sign).
I keep coming back to thinking the absolute perfect pitch to Bradman is just “Give us 2028, win the comp - maybe win it twice, who knows? - and name your price wherever you want to go after that”.

I understand the money side of things, but surely winning a comp and seeing the club be successful and him being a part of it would be more appealing than going over for money and living in a compound. Also I don't think his Mrs will be happy living away from her family.
PNG are going to have a massive issue when players start to request exits on compassionate grounds.

Probably won’t happen - but a year extension could benefit both parties.

I guess the new money of Perth and PNG has come at a bad time for our negotiations - inflating things a little.
I guess PNG would want their man in 2028, not later.
But, an extension would hopefully allow him to win a premiership here, and he knows what we are building here and can perhaps keep building to keep his Origin spot and command more as an established Origin player.
He won’t be signing at Manly or Souths - their hamstring managements are also pretty poor.
We may also have a better idea of the salary cap moving forward and a bit of an idea if our juniors coming through are up to replacing him yet.
From a top team business perspective - we have Hunt and Winter appearing like good options to cover centre.
Obviously not at Best’s level - but also at an absolute fraction of the cost - even more so if we do what Colesworth do and say $$/game.
Though, working on the Penrith model - they say have $1M set aside for their starting centres. So either 2 x 500k players, one 750k player and one 250k player.

Hopwood/Sharpe (and Crossland) need new contracts next season - go to market in November 2027.
