Best Ever Signings

David Fairleigh has only been mentioned twice in this thread.
Once by me, once by Celticman98.
He only played 26 games for us.
He played in 2000. Many people think our 2000 roster was the the best ever Knights roster. Better than 2001, but injuries at the wrong time kept us out of the GF.
Our player of the year in 2000 - David Fairleigh
Players player in 2000 - David Fairleigh
Coach's award in 2000 - David Fairleigh

A lot of our greatest players were at their peak in 2000.
Shame he didn't play in 2001, definitely a guy who deserved a premiership ring.

Does Robbie 0 count obviously played all his nrl for knights but who ever from knights identified him and signed him was master stroke 200+ nrl games origins test 2x premierships and Clive Churchill
I think it was David Waite who saw him beat a player with footwork BEFORE he received a pass and just went "we have to get him".

Yeah what a gun I’d put him just behind A John’s and Buderus he doesn’t play 97 manly win convincingly in the context of both his tries where individual efforts to keep us in the game
Absolutely and often forgotten these days, now Joey is an Immortal and all the focus is on him going down the blind side.

Another one where I thought wtf we were doing when we didn’t want to keep him after 04…injuries?
The players they lost that year was unforgivable but again Joey gets second place in Dally M despite the games he missed, and shows what he’s really capable of in origin

To be fair Seage looked like a great replacement, but unfortunately he was incapable of getting out of bed without doing an ACL.

David Fairleigh saying he went from playing for 500k a season to 1500 a win and nothing for a loss for Newcastle and won every award because he had a point to prove.

I liked that David Fairleigh said that he never “dogged it” when he played for the Knights, after he didn’t get picked up by the Northern Eagles. He was always a goer Fairleigh.
Maybe the “never dog it” mantra should be added to the Knights “be the player that other players want to play with” mantra and we may be getting closer to playing top 4 annually.
There have been a lots of passengers in the Knights teams over the last 2 decades. At times, it looks like they don’t care if they lose, which makes it very difficult being a Knights supporter. The hard edge of the early Knights teams is seen only intermittently at best these days.

The last 2 paragraphs of this post neatly sum up the Knights since Joey retired.

just watched on Kayo our 2010 game against the broncos far out Ben cross got absolutely folded every time he took a hit up.
I don't recall a lot of games where he consistently cleared over 100 running metres, or made a line bending impact, seemed more like a Martin Lang type of guy, but he did have some bad luck with injuries. Could even argue his last excellent game was that 07 GF lol
