Bennett to the Knights?

The only quote they have is, "The path is now clear for his return". From a 'close' source. The path is also clear for him to come to Newcastle. Doesnt mean jack until Bennett himself comes out and says where he is going.

Hardly anything to right home about. But no doubt the DT turn it into a feature article. Are these the same guys who said Bennett>>Souths was a Done deal months ago?

From Bennetts Quotes:

"If I had to be away for another three years, I'll be away for another three years,"

Now if he come out and said, "I have to be back in Brisbane to be with family" then this quote would support the articles logic.

"I haven't made a decision for next year."

But according to this article he has made a decision.

"It's not about money - if it was about money I wouldn't be leaving here [the Dragons]."

That doesnt make sense, the dragons cant compete with the contracts offered by Souths, Newcastle or Brisbane. Sounds like it was just said by Bennett to throw a spanner in the works.

And the Lockyer angle again:

The great Darren Lockyer, who will retire at the end of this season, will complete a coaching apprenticeship under Bennett at Brisbane.

But at the same time, the SAME newspaper trots out this article

"Brisbane Broncos hope to retain current coact Anthony Griffin as Wayne Bennett's assistant"

Hmmm. Looks like the DT are playing another game of dot to dot. There is nothing concrete that says which way Bennett will go. And there are elements of this deal that can be spun to suit each way.

Yeah, a lot is pointing against it, but it's pretty damn dire for national newspaper to completely make up a story.

Its written by the same bloke Fungus.

I realise, but I just have a feeling. I hope I'm wrong...

"I can assure you it's not about money - if it's money I wouldn't be leaving here," Bennett said.

"It's about the challenge. I'll make that decision when I'm ready and hopefully I don't have to make the announcement until the end of the year.

He also said he wasn't motivated by the need to win premierships at three different clubs - a milestone that no other coach has managed but one Bennett could put himself in a position to achieve if he signs with Newcastle.

trust me no one in the media has any Idea what Bennett is doing . They can all have a guess and assume where he is going . I work in Sydney media rooms all day and I can tell you that no one knows , plenty of people are saying that they know for a fact that he is coming to Newcastle but this is not fact , Sit back and relax people you will have to wait until Bennett is ready to announce his position.
As far as Bennett talking to Tinkler in the last few days , I have heard reports that this is correct but Bennett has also been talking to other clubs in the competition including 2 Queensland clubs .

Exactly. There is nothing concrete from News Limited. The Tele / Courier Mail need to jump on an angle and they are taking the safest one in the hope that it turns out correct.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bennett hasn't even made his mind up yet.

The Telegraph in particular has a history of staunchly backing unfounded information of how things may pan out, in the hope that it does so that they can say they knew first.

There is plenty of water to go under the bridge in this saga...

Bingo.

However, I've never been that confident in signing him and wouldn't be overly disapointed if we missed out on the basis that who's to really say we were a chance. Media blow this up way too much. From what I heard... Tinkler was asked 'Wayne Bennett to Newcastle' in a one on one interview and he smiled, basically said he'd love for that to happen, as any person would want Bennett coming to their club.

The media have jumped on that ridiculously coming up with crazy figures and things like 'flying him home on his private jet'

Maybe that has been offered, but as mentioned above we cant look too much into what's being said by the media.

It makes more sense from a familie's point of view he heads home to Brisbane.

More than likely your reasoning is absolutely correct.............. Let's not forget that Bennett was supposed to be signed ,sealed and delivered at the the Roosters................. That never happened and that was also a case of the media smelling blood and making up all kinds of stories.

The media, especially the written press, are a bigger bunch of liars than politicians and used car salesmen! It seems to me that the press make up stories and are never held responsible for the lies they tell.......

Yes, I bought the Courier mail today, and the head line basicly said, make wy he is coming home or something?? I read te article closer, and it ws the biggest load of crap I have ever heard, they know just as much as you me and the next bloke. I would not worry about this, they are just adding 2 and 2 togeher and coming up with 5.

Hahaha, it was very dissapointing actually, they just chunred out Waynes words from the confrence, and linked Darrens retirement, and came up with their wangas in their hand IMO. OH and Daruis the next 5/8 lol

Chief editor Buzz at the Daily Telegraph will no doubt allow any crap to be published that destablises the Knights. The day after Tinkler pulled out his offer, an article about Snowden was published and it said Snowden was due to re-sign with the Sharks as soon as a few days (IIRC, which was a month ago), and also lets also not forget Ricky Stuart going to the Knights link LOL
Tbh it wouldnt surprise me if Bennett went to the Broncos but any guy on the street can really make a 50/50 guess as to where he will go. As someone posted earlier no one has any idea where he is going.

Buzz will no doubt have some sort of blog saying how Tinkler needs to be monitored with signing players and that Snowden is a dog for leaving Cronulla. Will put money on it.

Yeah no doubt he will be questioning how we can fit two high paid players under our cap when we only have one player who is anywhere near close to 400k

This week:

Ponting resigns as Captain
Darren Lockyer announces retirement
Wayne Bennett says he wont be coaching the Dragons next year
Tinkler takeover

Bennett to the Knights tommorow perhaps?

Personally i think it would be after the St. George game, it just seems Bennett is too professional to go and throw a spanner in the works like that.
