Auckland Nines Your Team!

I loved the sevens!!! Been wanting it back for a long time :)

This is just as good!! Now what will our team be, have your best guess! look like not every first grade player will be pick, most players picked will be for speed!!

Still waiting for the rules to be posted but its two 9 minute halves.

1. Boyd
2. McManus
3. BJ
4. Gagai
5. Aku
6. Mullen
7. Mason
8. Cuthbertson
9. Gidley

very hard to pick just nine players :)

Need to know what the positions are before I can pick a team, or is it just throw any 9 on the field & make up positions?

If it was the second option I would have 2 wingers (McManus & Uate), 2 centres (Gagai & Leilua), 2 ball playing props (Cuthbertson & Mason) & 3 playmakers, one to act as first receiver & the main playmaker (Mullen), one to play dummy half & look for openings in the defence when the ball is being played (Roberts but only coz Gidley is injured) & one to support any offloads & act as second receiver when needed (Boyd).

I'm sure our squad won't be as high profile as that though, probably will have atleast 2 young guns in there.

Is it worth risking your top 9 players before the season starts.?
I would throw in NSW and Holden cup players in the mix instead of Mullo, Boyd, and Gidz

Apparently they have to use NRL top players its part of the deal! along with NYC and NSW Cup of course but there is a clause that you must play your best/exiciting players

Not really.

One of the top five paid players at the club needs to go.
Twelve of the sixteen man squad have to be from top 25 at the club.

McManus
Uate
BJ
Chanel Matau'tia
Mullen
Cuthbertson
Houson
Snowden
Clydsdale

Hilder
Tahu
Tyler Randell
Gagai
Willie Mason
Korbin Sims
Jake Mamo

Our back line will be hard to contain but the key will be the big quick forwards which we don't have. (Burgess ,SBW, Lewis, Mateo etc.)

Big, fast players will have a MAJOR advantage in this comp!
Players that cant tackle 1 on 1 will really make it horror for his team aswell!

McKinnon and Rochow have decent work rates and would be among our quickest and most agile forwards. Sims and Cuthbo are no slouches either and they offer some offloading ability.

I'd go:

Boyd
BJ
Gagai
Aku
Mullen
McKinnon
Rochow
Sims

Roberts

McKinnon has been trash full stop since coming back and he was fading before he got hurt.

Wayne reckons players have too much football as it is, reckon we will see a squad something along the lines of Uate, Dobson and a whole bunch of fringe guys.

I'd love to see all four Mataútia brothers in a nines side, but with Pete gone and Pat and Chanel uncertain, it can't happen.

Uate would be our best nines player because of his ability to exploit open field chances.

If Jake Mamo and Sione Mataútia both train with firstgrade i'd put them into the squad and maybe give them some game time. Both are strong and fast guys who score plenty of tries and make plenty of line breaks. Mamo has 22 line breaks and 21 tries in 21 games this season.

Tyler Randell can play hooker, halfback, lock, second row - ideal playmaker for nines and a good defender.

Clydsdale is also more than just a hooker. He has a kicking game and has as many try assists as anyone in NYC. He is also a defender who makes 30 or 40 tackles a game.

Maybe Tets could play nines too. He used to be able to run with the backs - still does when he plays second row in NSW cup.

If we sign Filipo for next year he would be a natural - great attacking back and solid forward.

McKinnon definitely should be dropped for Cuthbo this week. He'd still be a pretty decent 9s player though, I reckon.

Sims doesn't deserve to be in FG but he'd be in my 9s team as well.

We were traditionally one of the stronger sevens teams, so I really hope we send over decent side to this. Let's face it, we won't be challenging for the premiership next year, so let's give ourselves a chance to win something!

The Warriors should stroll to victory, especially at home. They play nines style as it is.

Good chance to see Dobson, Clydesdale etc run around though.
