Adam O'Brien replacement?

AOB says his job is guaranteed for this year 😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱 He knows the team needs to start next season well for his sake. He says he made a mistake with this pre-season but he will get the next one right.

If that's the thinking we can kiss goodbye to next year as well. Everyone you talk to in the community and I mean everyone wants him gone and the sooner the better. I have never seen so many people vocal about our teams dismal performance. How could they even contemplate letting Klemmer go it's beyond me.

Hey, everyone on this forum has been an ASSistant coach In some capacity at some point In their lives.

He got the job without ever being head coach and we here at MS Knights Forum would like for you to show us some respect when we take over the reigns here at Newcastle.

We will also be taking all coaching and staffing directions from the forum as well.

Maybe Klemmer doesn't mind giving it back to Obi?
 
I mentioned a while ago on here about the introduction of Knowles & the Panthers performance team in our pre-season, and AOB brought it up in the presser. I wonder if they were being under trained previously & have fatigued/not adjusted to higher work loads this year.
 
Well whether AOB stays or goes, I’m sure they’ve been keeping notes on the guys who can hack it and the ones who can’t, and are hopefully ready to adjust the roster accordingly.
 
You would hope and assume that's what would happen, but the number of players they have let go recently as they weren't good enough for our first grade team, but have secured a position in first grade at a better club and are proving that they are of NRL standard

As if next year isn't already flushed down the toilet.

OB already saying it is going to take a long time. I don't tink by that he meant, 6 games and an off season.

Now, he is saying he made a mistake with the last off season, and that he knows they need to start the season well next year for his job security.

The guy is lost and doesn't know what to do. Can't get the team firing, can't get the D working, can't get the attack flowing.

The head coach admitting they didn't see a first grade player in a player that just scored a hat trick against you...

Put a fork in him!
 
Kent reckons OB is too analytical and making the game strategy too difficult for dumb footy players to grasp.

Makes sense. OB saying he comes from Melbourne and Roosters where they get the cream of the crop and the overall footy IQ would be far higher than here. Kent reckons assistants can be very clipboard happy, but they don't learn man management and how to parent a team along.

Also, someone mentiond in here I think that OB is another Seibold. Whih again makes sens as Seibold and OB are tight, OB brought Seibold here and it would be no surprise that they think alike. Seibold was criticised for being far too complex.

The squad don't understand what is expected of them and run out unable to implement it so fall back to a basic style of footy, one out hit ups, very little flair. Needing constant settlers to get ready for the next play. Slow motion ball movement out to the wing etc.

In short, too much study and not enough fun! Result is an unhappy team going through the motions and not loving life.

I still think 80% of a coach role with the squad is motivation, getting players to play for him, for themselves, for their family, for the club and lastly for the fans. 20% is strategy and that can be implemented through assistants.

OB doesn't have the players playing FOR him. Or for themselves for that matter. Dumping Klem, if he is liked in the squad can only serve to make that soo much harder to get that bond with the team.

I think that’s it in a nutshell mate.

Probably not a coincidence that the two games our attack looked most capable of pulling out a game for us were with a halves combo of Mitchell Pearce and Blake Green. A lot of experience and in the case of Greeny at least intelligence there.

I think very few players we send out there each week really get why we’re doing what we’re doing - so yeah the result is they kind of just run through the plays for their own sake.

I think Brailey is a really good hooker *if you have a dominant halfback*. Cam Smith he is not. He can’t be the focal point of the attack as was the plan in pre-season, in my opinion.

I reckon the instinct so many of us have to move Ponga into the halves is really just that he has a much better instinctual ability to read to the game and react to what he’s seeing than any of our other players, to manipulate space, to time his passes etc, and it’s not close at all. Drop him into that Manly lineup right now and I think people on here would be surprised how much of Tommy Turbo’s value he’d replace. Likewise we wouldn’t be in the rot we’re in now with DCE and Foran in the halves. I’m not convinced we’d be a dynamite attacking outfit, I do think there’s big issues with the coaching, but it’d be a lot more functional.

Thing is, we could rush out and get DCE, or Cleary, Reynolds etc. They can play, but if the atmosphere is dead air, it's going to suck the will to want to play right out of them.

It's the reason players who look good elsewhere come here and after a short time, look like reserve graders. They arrive all full of enthusiasm and not much time later have footy depression.

It's also the reason you see players here not kick on, but at other clubs appear to do better.

Penrith for all their brilliance, aren't chock full of brilliant players. They play like a happy team who love playing together. And that makes every aspect of being involved in a club that much easier. The arrogance tag they were given last year was simply them having fun and loving life playing together.

Newcastle on the other hand, it just isn't working. No joy there at all. Players leave the field immediately after games. Even in the dark times of 3 wooden spoons players stayed out and greeted the fans. The squad has depression. OB needs to be the cure but I fear he is the cause. And I don't think he has any clue on how to motivate the squad and bring a team together as one unit.

Bring the fun, and the results will follow.
 
What Kent said makes a great deal of sense

There is a big difference between being the assistant and the head coach, to know what it looks like doesn’t mean you can teach it.
 
If he addresses the team the way he conducts his press conferences, it's no wonder the team have no idea what they are doing. He continually talks in circles without actually saying anything. The players need simple uncomplicated easy to understand instructions and I am not sure AOB is capable of doing that.
 
Not a huge fan of Flanagan but he’s what we need right now. Warren Ryan had been out of the game for a few seasons when he was signed for 1999 and 2000 he got the place back on track and we all know what happened 2001
