Adam O'Brien replacement?

I can’t imagine Ponga ever letting us have hard nosed coach’s like Flanagan or Madge just saying. Bit random but Paul Green deserves another shot for mine.
 
Anyone who can’t stomach AOBs excuses should really not want Flanagan to be the coach. Every single game Cronulla ever lost who would be in the presser blaming anything but the teams performance. Think he might be blacklisted by other NRL clubs over the peptide thing. Showing absolutely no contrition for his actions I think have hurt his chances at ever getting another go.
 
I think we need someone who fits the wayne bennet mold of coach. We have a great S+C team so the coach doesn't need to worry about that side. Let a recruitment team handle that department, I think our recruitment is fine. Rugby league is a pretty simple game, if it was a uni degree the theory and strategy would be like 1 semesters worth of content, so hire literally any one keen and good to be around to be an assistant coach.

The head coach just needs to be a man manager. Their job is to find a way to motivate players to play hard and with passion. That's it. This recent trend of recently hired coaches who are expert defensive or expert attack coaches, who gives a **** if the guys dont want to play with passion and execute it. We want someone the boys respect and will play hard for. Its that simple.

The only bloke who fits that mold for me is Flannagan. I remember listening to interviews of that sharks team and they all loved him and wanted to play for him. He must be a likeable bloke to those around him, otherwise he wouldnt have got hired at fox (an organisation almost more about jobs for the boys than the knights themselves).

Madge and Green when they had success all had a really strong leadership group at their cups, which takes away a lot of the need for the coach to drive that motivation, as that strong leadership core drives that intrinsically. We obviously dont have that here at newy.

Its all well and good for AOB to talk about how this team is weak mentally and that its ingrained. That's all BS the club has completly changed coaching staff, S+C staff, players and ownership several times over the years, there's been nothing there consistently to ingrain a **** culture in. It's your job as the head coach to motivate the players to play with that passion and drive.
 
No one actually cares about AOB’s “excuses”. The criticism is because we’re losing. AOB is absolutely on the low end of the spectrum when it comes to blaming refs, making excuses and refusing to take accountability. Like go watch any Des Hasler presser after a loss and he will rattle off and complain about literally every call which didn’t go his way. The difference is his teams consistently win more than they lose, so no one’s like “this ****’s just making excuses”. Like do any of us think there’s a thing he can say which will make us all feel better about getting cricket scores put on us?
 
Season was clearly done and dusted weeks ago....there doesn't seem to be any improvement in the team.

In the odd week where we show improvement in one area, we go backwards in a few others.

Wests need to pay AOB out and get a new coach in. This team is a basket case and with AOB in charge next year we will be cellar dwellers.

The Ponga decesion to stay at Newcastle Instead of pushing the limits at the Dolphins with Wayne gives me big reason to doubt.

I find this the weirdest argument ever.

There's no bigger challenge in rugby league than turning the Knights into contenders, it's been 20 years of failure. If that's not pushing your limits I dunno what is.

I was referring to the playing group and not the actual coach with regards to wanting him gone.

As for the 20 years of failure, we've had arguably the best coach In NRL and we have had a number after of coaches after him who have come and gone with the waves.

I still think the best decesion for coach was Shaun Wane from England, It would have been a massive left field decision but I believe It would have worked.

We do need a hard *** coach at the moment and Wane fits the bill, but Flanagan is only 150kms down the road
