2026 Recruitment And Retention

Where's the Bulldogs story coming from?

There's no realistic, big-money fit they could trade here. Burton seems to be the odd man out there so maybe he could go somewhere else and we get someone from the 3rd team in a 3-way swap. In all likelihood I think the Knights would be content with just getting him off the books and moving forward with Sharpe/Brown/Smith as the spine, and a lot of money to spend whenever something comes up.

Ponga > Dogs
Burton, Max King > Titans
Tino > Knights

Did I cook?

I'm absolutely convinced our spine next year will be.

1 Ponga/Sharpe
6 Brown
7 Smith
9 Crossland

14 Arthur/Graham.

Anyone know if the Hoad twins are staying at the club or leaving? They deserve at least a train and trial if still at the club.

As unlikely as that is, I’d make that deal

That’s not saying I want to get ride of Ponga
Yep it's only worth it if you get a proper difference maker back. The Dogs have a lot of nice players, Max King, Josh Curran types, but in big games you need the genuine big guns. Players who can put a team on their back. Good players in depth matters most in the regular season, Nathan Cleary, Reece Walsh, Isaah Yeo, Payne Haas, Harry Grant can win the three games you need to win later on. And realistically you should be able to develop players who are kind of at a similar level to the guys the Dogs have in depth. I'd be willing to bet on someone like Lachlan Crouch developing into a pretty comparable player to one of the two Kings, Josh or Max, for example.

So if something like that is presented to you, a top tier middle forward, yeah you consider it.

Otherwise you stay patient and see if by late 2026 if these kids we're putting a lot of faith in like Hopwood and McEwen are showing real signs of growing into those top tier superstars. If Cody Hopwood is looking like a white Tino or Tapine. Where is Sharpe playing, and is he happy there? That's when you evaluate the roster as it's constructed now.

I've been frustrated with Kalyn at times, but yeah he's the difference maker, there's no way we can replace him with something that gives us a better chance of getting that trophy unless we've developed it.

It’s never ending the river of **** that flows around teams linked to KP.
I’ll believe it when either the Knights or another NRL/Superleague/Rugby/NFL/UFC/Ballet team formally announce it.

LOL the users of The Kennel are asking each other whether Isaac Issa uses them as his “unnamed source”. They have a lengthy thread there speculating about whether they can get Kalyn.

I'm not sure what Marzhew is on. Interestingly, Holbrook was the coach when we did the swap. I wonder if he thought I should have kept him, maybe after 23. Marz is great on kick returns and early set hitups. He’s also a pretty good finisher. I just don’t think he got a lot of opportunities this year, not his fault. So will see what happens.

If Fletch goes into centre and Gags on the wing, the only concern is that he’s slowed down quite a bit now. And he still is a good defensive centre. If Smith plays 7 we need to get Sharpe in the side. Centre or wing.
