It’s not going to be easy, but I would rather be in Australia’s position rather than South Africa’s.

It has been sunny there today which makes a big difference but some cloud cover is predicted for later today.

Fantastic batting by South Africa by the looks of it. Still a chance for Australia though … I haven’t watched any of the game so far, but I’ll be flicking over after the Knights game to watch the end of this one!

The sun came out at the worst possible time for Australia, with only two wickets in the bag. Australia will need a miracle (and more cloud cover) from here. SA winning the World Test Championship isn't the worst thing for Test Cricket.

Australia will get smashed tonight and SA will richly deserve their victory. The chokers tag will be consigned to history. The victory will be huge for cricket in SA.

@Frank McWilliams was spot on about SA being able to chase down the target.

The Australian team and selectors will get a reality check and there will be no excuse for not axing Labuschagne anymore.

Labuschagne soaked up 120 balls at the top of the order in this test … Khawaja, Green and Head will all be wishing they’d managed anywhere near that.

As Seano says, Australia need some cloud cover this morning, and there’s every chance of that happening in early season England.

If the can knock over Markram and Bavuma first up in the morning they can roll through them. South Africa’s batting line up is flimsy at best. Will need some early cloud cover but if Starc and Cummins get their tail up anything can happen.

I agree the Khawaja, Green and Head have been disappointing in this game. Head and Green have the potential to make big scores to set up games for Australia. When Head fires, he is a match winner. Khawaja used to be able to score big scores consistently, he scored a double test century in January against Sri Lanka, he may come good.

Labuschagne scores slowly, allows opposition bowlers to dominate and then he gets out. It’s nearly 2 years since he has scored a test century, he is averaging 16.16 from 4 test matches this year and 30.93 from 9 test matches last year. We need a number 3 batsman who does not get bogged down at the start of his innings and one who can regularly go to make big scores.

South Africa not too worried about the second new ball, are they? Really taking their time.

It’s very predictable. Australia now is like the mouse that the cat has caught and is playing with.

We still need to take six wickets for less than 41 runs, it’s sunny and we don’t have a Shane Warne in the team.

If we can get another 2 wickets quickly, then I’ll give us a chance.

Markram the key man for sure, if they had him with the second new ball around the corner it would be very different.

Watching this is bringing back memories of NZ’s win … the madness of taking a week off work and watching every day, becoming nocturnal lol … India collapsing on the sixth and final day … us calmly chasing it down with ten overs left … Williamson, Taylor, Watling, Wagner, Southee & Boult being the mainstays … all gone now except Kane!

I think I was almost having hallucinations by the end of that week with the strange hours haha.

It wasn’t close in the end.

Congratulations to South Africa, they richly deserved their victory, I’m very happy for them.

Australia still need to learn to not waste reviews.

It’s time for the Australian selectors to stop being complacent and to weld the axe. We have an Ashes series to build towards. Drop Labuschagne now!

Fantastic win South Africa, well done to them! Great show of composure to chase down the second highest winning total at Lord’s … and in a final! And to turn around that first innings, vs the best bowling attack in test match cricket. Super impressive, I didn’t think they’d get close.

Like NZ when they won the WTC, they only had a Champion’s Trophy in their cabinet until now, so I know this will be a huge sense of relief and satisfaction.
