How many runs will Labuschagne score in the first innings?

It was an excellent catch by Jansen though.

Looks as though Australia will need to bowl out SA cheaply to stay in the game.
 
SA on top in the first session but Australia hit back in the second session to take a crucial 74 run first innings lead.

Cummins has bowled well in this game to take 6/28.
 
After being in a position where we just needed a decent score to set up a victory, Australia’s brittle batting lineup has been exposed again. We now need our bowlers to save the team again.

Khawaja has been an exceptional batsman since his return to the test side but now he is vulnerable and it’s seems like it’s time for him to retire. We need to get new blood in our top order batting immediately, surely Konstas must play in the 3 tests against the West Indies.

Green is a poor starter, he needs to work on this.

Inglis should replace Labuschagne in the next test match, I wonder whether he could open for us and get our innings off to the positive start we need.

I haven't been watching it live - has the pitch had demons in it? Or has it just been good bowling and poor batting from both sides?
 
I have watched the first two seasons of both days play.

Both sides have exceptional bowling lineups. One of reports I read this morning said the bowlers are still getting movement of the width of a bat off the seam. And because the game is at Lord’s, bowlers are able to obtain excessive movement at the Pavilion end because of the slope.

Rabada is a great bowler and he has been well supported by the other South African bowlers.

Cummins is another great bowler and he is also well supported the other Australian bowlers.

With a few exceptions the batting has been tentative and the bowlers just have to keep bowling well to get wickets.

Excellent question, I would feel safe with 280 but that is unlikely. I’m always very conservative with nominating a total to defend.

The Australians need to bowl well, I would expect them to cope better with the pressure than the Proteas.
 
Sounds about right Lefty. It always seems to me like a psychological win when they pass the first innings score of the opposing team in the second dig. But yeah, 280 sounds right, but it would be a huge challenge from here. Hopefully, we win the first hour.
 
Worry is if Starc and Hazelwood, especially Hazelwood can score that many then no total is safe but hopefully the bowlers will prevail, go Aust.
