2025 pre season thread

Article about Crossland in the Herald today.
Says he is off to Japan for several weeks where he will "eat whatever I want for once".
My nephew has been working in Japan for a few years and all he ever puts on facebook is photos of food.
Hope he doesn't come back like my nephew - 6'6" and 120kg.

We need another front rower

Latest pic of Linnane shows how much work he's done.
Both him and Sharpe last pre-season really didn't look like they'd ever been in a gym.

Wests tigers at home round 1 on Saturday afternoon
Would be a great way to start the season
Crowd wise, family friendly time
A chance to start with a solid win and build some confidence while brushing of some cob webs

Listening to a podcast with Hastings, sounds like he's really ripping in, and has no interest in leaving or hasn't been approached to leave. Was nothing but complementary about the knights. Still the best halfback we have, even with that below avg kicking game.
Which podcast was he on?

I listened to it. He gives some good insights. Mentions he is willing to play any position in the team to help win a premiership. Where as before he always just wanted to play 7. Talks about ball playing lock.

It’s his first pre-season in a few years where he hasn’t been injured or Covid. He talks quite a lot about mental illness and he was diagnosed with ADHD and depression earlier this year. Says he’s on medication and that is really helping him. He is having a baby, bought a house in Newcastle and loves the town and supporters.

I agree he is the best halfback we have. From the sounds of it he will make amends with his teammates. I could see him playing lock to accommodate Cogger and Gamble. But if he proves he’s the best half then he’s the 7.

AOB will have his work cut out for him figuring out the best halves combo within the team structure. I still would like to see Pryce given more of an opportunity.

Just finishing it now and took the same things you did from it. Also, gives Madge big wraps.

Attacking wise I could see him making a really good fist of lock, not sure about how he’d do defensively though.

Excited to see if he can turn it around. A come back story like Sea Biscuit, Rocky and Kim Kardashian!
😂

Jacko’s always been a guy who says the nicest **** about everyone publicly, the issue is more that he seems to rub people the wrong way behind closed doors.

But I do believe the team we have now is a group of guys who want to win and if he says and does the right things, it’s not unthinkable he comes back into the fold.

I think due to his kicking issues I’d want to play him at five-eighth under the understanding that his role is marshalling the left side of the attack and just getting the ball where it needs to go. The Blake Green type of 6. Maybe have a chat about what his salary looks like going forward in a reduced role in the team. If he’s happy to accept that, he may stay on.

Hope we are chasing an elite 7 or elite 7 prospect.

Yep this has been the never ending Hastings cycle. Hope for his sake he’s finally figured out how to stop alienating himself from his teammates but going to take more than another performative podcast appearance to believe it.

Going into 2024 I was on the side that he was comfortably our best halfback but I’m sceptical that player still exists, both physically and mentally.

Biggest issue at end of year seems to be with senior playing group, not coaching staff, so smoothing it over with them, gaining teams confidence will be key.

He's a big asset to the team (any team really) talent wise. he'd work well at 13, 6 or 7, just depends on what went wrong last year with team not wanting him in top 17 and in end going with Crossy and Cogs. I still want him to have success here, it ****s me it didn't and I do reserve thought's of senior Knights player maybe being a little too precious. The reserve players always comment on his social and have a laugh. If the top team are too clicky then there in lies part of the problem.

either way I think starting the season it'll be Cogger/Gamble/Pryce with Jacko being a possible back up13/half. Though clearly POS and Parr and AOB are lining squad up to have likes of Hopwood, McEwen making debut's off bench this year. Jacko's 800k pay packet will be coming down significantly even if he goes to another club, so if he wants to resign here as a 13/backup half it'll be obviously heavily reduced amount. Halves wise though Club is clearly looking at other options for future including juniors like Linnane/Loza

So new names added to fistgrade profiles

Jye Linnane - 5/8
Wilson De Courcey - centre
Malachi Smith - hooker
Elijah S/L - 2nd row
Tyrone Thompson - prop

I assume these are the guys who are looking good from the younger group. 4 Flegg aged and Tyrone.
