And the run rate hasn’t been achieved by slogging or all out aggressive play. Rather, a mixture of putting the bad balls away and, at times, some atrocious fielding from Pakistan.

State cricket needs sorting ASAP. Not good reading when only 3 players averaged over 50. One of them being SPD Smith, Jack Edwards who’s didn’t score a century but averted 51.75 and Hanno Jacob’s who’s averaged 54.25 in 3 games with 2 not outs. No wonder Marnus keeps getting selected

These same players who are averaging 30s in shield are playing county and averaging low 50s and high 40s. Literally the way australian wickets are now and the redesigned kookaburra ball with a higher raised seam is the reason for the decline in numbers. Honestly and ive said this before go watch footage of the state of test and shield wickets in the 90s and 00s they are absolute roads. The wickets had to change because we were seeing 1st innings scores by both teams in the 4 and 500s reguarly and not getting results at shield level, but it has gone to far over the last decade and the new kookaburra has made it even harder.
On Marnus he is and has shown he is the best shield batter by a long way. The stepup from shield to test cricket is the equivelent of playing SG ball to nrl.
