2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Do you offer hunt 3 years and option for 4 in club favour starting 23 if he can get a release because if the dragons sack griffin it could be a big possibility they might let him go and start fresh with young guys

Andrew Fifita, Andrew Davies and Martin Tapau off contract at seasons end with no clubs after them.

Be a hugely unpopular opinion but why not replace Klemmer for Tapau on probably a 1/3 of the money.

Or Frizell with Davies and Fifita for probably half the $.

It would be nice if Klemmer accepts less money on his next deal but he should be retained.

Frizell, though?

Well I’ve noticed Davey knows how to hit a hole. So I’d consider it to free up cap space…

Dear god  Tapau to replace Klemmer? Surely Klemmer has left enough egg on your face this year to not even speak of his name now

I am not saying they are direct replacements in the slightest, but we already have Jacob and Dan on big money, with Thompson looking at a big year next year. I'd have happy at Martin on half the $ to free up $500k and go with.

10. Jacob.
8. Dan.
14. Thompson
15. Tapau.

Klemmer performed better then both of Saifiti’s combined this year. Far from your claim of him being past it and phoning it in for a pay cheque.

I see no indications of Thompson being in for a big year next year. Standard reserve grade player that looks good for a couple games but can’t back it up consistently over a season.

Fifita is retiring season's end. Davey is off to the dogs and Marty taps is only good in the gym and for 5 minutes of good play. Klemmer > taupau. End of story.

I never once said Klemmer phoned it in.

We have apparently signed an 18 year old Kiwi lock forward named Tamakaimoana Whareaorere (no way I'm going to learn to spell that) till the end of 2024.
I assume he will be a Flegg signing, although how we squeeze him into the Flegg pack when we have Keeley, Bradbury, Martin, Cant, Toloi, Petersen, Bryan all still young enough for Flegg next year - and probably a few others.

Apologies if you didn’t but I thought you had. Nonetheless you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried on your assessment of Klemmer topped off with your recent suggestion of Tapau taking his place in the top 17 next season.

Fully agree it isn't ideal, but to me having 2 veterans in Frizell and Klemmer both on $800k and $900k respectively is really **** poor cap management, yes both are helpful for the team but having close to 20% of your cap on two aging forwards is insanity. Especially when we are allegedly cap poor and desperately need half our spine replaced. To me one should go and money be funnelled to the spine.

Hoping all over Parr puts a broom through the place.

Would happily scrap.

Crossland.
Clune.
Gagai.
Hunt.
Tuala.
Mann.
Clifford.
Jones.

However aside from that Gagai, who I seriously doubt would be on over $500k will make little to no difference to our cap all would be on under $200k, and we'd just have to replace with same ole, same ole.

To make any serious difference on our cap a big name has to make way.

Realistically, Klemmers numbers are great and a huge help to our go forward so ideally I'd keep him would love to see the offload a bit more.

If we could scrap one would be Frizzell for sure but his already taken up his player option.

Apparently he is a gun and up to 10 clubs were chasing him according to the media.
