2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

If we have fullback sorted, maybe we can talk about hooker.
As far as I can see we have Brailey, a bunch of utilities, and some Flegg aged guys like Riley Jones, Kobe Rugless and Noah Naigolivia.

One injury to Brailey, and Kurt Mann seems our best option, just ahead of Crossland and Gamble.
Don’t mind gamble at hooker. Wonder if he has the engine to go 30+ tackles in 70mins

We had a decent back up hooker and we let him go, and by the way we had a back up fullback and let him go to.
Randall is trash poor service from dummy half, gave away penalties, in his defence it was probably from being tired due to all the tackling he does do.

Also he didn't really make alot of dominant tackles.

Hoy was a fringe first grader but wouldn't of hurt to keep him on for 12 months if the club was already thinking of moving ponga.

From the outside looking in recruitment and retention looks easy but I doubt any of us would do much better.

Great attacking hooker, not sure his size would handle FG in back to back games. Was a lot of love for him within club, but that seemed to wean off last couple years.

Don;t know a lot about Rugless, nuggity looking guy, but unsure on his service. I personally don't have an issue with Mann at 9 or Crossland, for small time frames, i'm talking 2-5 games max for a injured Brailey. anything too long and team will suffer. I think the team will bonus massively from having a fit and committed Brailey in a full off season *touch wood i didn't just put the mocker on him* But the other two can get it done for a few games for sure. beyong this season, hopefully the likes of Noah Nailagoliva, Riley Jones, Mitch Black and Kobe Rugless come through well developed.

Any of these young guys doing the full preseason?

Riley Jones and Kobe Rugless are both still in the squad. Nagsy is injured someone said and hasn't trained with firstgrade.
I'm not sure Rugless is still seen as a hooker. He came here as a young hooker and trained with firstgrade all last pre-season, but he didn't get many games at hooker. He mostly played lock. He is a junior boxing champion with a really aggressive persona. He's a Michael Ennis level pest/sledger.

Aggressive persona sounds great without the reference to Michael Ennis please!

Having seen him giving it to all his old team mates in a Flegg game V the Roosters, Ennis is the only similar pest who comes to mind - but maybe that was just against his previous team.

Temple Kalepo also still training with first grade squad and most likely will be fighting it out with Riley Jones as nsw cup hooker if they don’t play Crossland there in nsw cup.
Hope they let Kalepo and Jones just play as the 9 as they would both be the better option and Crossland as one of the backup utilities

According the Phil Rothfield it’s happening. Peter Parr, said, he knew nothing of Millers release request about a week ago.

Parr coming out and saying yep he has asked for a release could embarrass the Sharks and put the whole deal at risk.

You do understand that whatever officials say to the media isn't necessarily the honest truth, or the whole story yeah?

Parr saying he knows nothing of the release means SFA really.

I keep forgetting about Kalepo, probably because I've never seen him play and have no idea if he's any good or not.

Ennis was a really good player though
In some areas, yes. But any player who has to resort to the depths that Ennis did knows that he is not good enough on talent alone. For me, he was an average first grader who often was in the right place very good players around him. He playing stats tell me that he was very average in most aspects of play. I was happy to see him leave the knights when he did. As a commentator, he was an average player.

Ennis was terrible in reserve grade for the Knights. He topped the try scoring with nearly a try a game, but the team got the wooden spoon because Ennis took every chance at the line himself and wouldn't give the ball to anyone.
He had all the tools to be good as a young guy, but a massive ball hog - worse than Levi by a long way.
