2022 Knights Recruitment & Retention Thread

Persistent rumours we’re still at the negotiating table with Kotoni Staggs. I can see the logic. Right centre is a problem. Good enough goalkicker to be first choice at a club (very good, consistent & repeatable technique), he’s just stuck behind Isaako on that count. I think Adzy’s plan for the future of the spine is to get a bunch of prospects in and whichever one steps up the most will get that spot, so if Kotoni does dream of playing five-eighth he’ll get as much chance as anyone to compete for that...

He’s also the most expensive outside back on the market and may never be anything more than a centre. He’ll go for a fair bit more money than Xavier Coates for example who for my money is the better all around prospect.

The thing that confuses me is that right centre is the favoured position of two of our best prospects, Simi Sasagi & Dom Young. Meanwhile Starford To’a gets dropped every other week, Edrick Lee is about to leave the club, and our other wing options are guys who list their preferred position as centre (Hunt, Musgrove).

It makes way more sense to me to be looking for a winger, and even better than that would be someone who plays both centre and wing at a competent to high level. Then instead of us signing a guy who blocks Dom/Simi’s path to first grade, it puts us in a position where Dom/Simi/Star are competing for spots - whoever demands selection gets it, and the hypothetical experienced back plays either centre or wing depending on who gets picked...

I wonder what Toby Marks thinks of his prospects this weekend.
It looks like Star Toa and Simi Sasagi will be right wing and centre for the Knights in reserve grade, lining up against their former team mate Toby Marks, who plays his 3rd game for the raiders in reserve grade. Good chance Tex will be on that side trying to set up Simi and Star as well.
 
Just like that, Kotoni Staggs re-signs with Brisbane, Xavier Coates allegedly off to Melbourne. The list of top tier off contract outside backs is rapidly shrinking.
 
Not saying we were odds on to sign them. Just know the club wants to sign an outside back, & the number of top drawer ones available is now shrinking.

The club just said established first grader, I dont think we are seriously looking to pay them 700k
 
We did talk to Kotoni though so I reckon there’s a bit more cap space sitting around than the club has let on.

Really? He’s missed at least if not more of the games since he’s been here and is now leaving because he wants more than we can offer. Been good on the field but hasn’t played enough.
Sivo & Ravalawa are powerful wingers who are both great finishers, I agree Sivo can go missing sometimes but his finishing is top shelf.
 
So Gagai, coats, and hoppa are off contract, who else is around? Also I was thinking is there anything happening with waqa Blake? With opacic doing well maybe he is an other option?
 
It would be great if Simi became a strike right centre. Is he playing there in Cup?
And can we watch any of the cup games on the net?

NSW RL TV page on facebook is where some games are being shown - only 1 Knights game so far - the loss to Wests where Jock Madden and BJ were too good for us.
They have been doing a lot of junior games. I expect we'll see more reserve grade when the juniors are finished.
