2022 Jersey Flegg

Thanks for that.
If I ever go mental it will be because I'm hanging on some ratbag to do the live updates an hour or two late.

Knights are now 2 points off the top of the table and Roosters play 3rd placed Wests next week, while we play 7th placed Raiders.

Highlights of our great win start at 8.36.
You still can't find a report of the game on the net, or even a final score or an up to date ladder, but from what I can piece together the Roosters ran out to a 14-0 lead and the Knights came back to win 20-14,
The try from Fletcher Sharpe was slick, and two gritty tries from Noah Naigolivia got us home. Noah always stands up in big games.

Tries scored by;
1 James Johnson
2 Fletcher Sharpe
3 Noah Naigolivia
4 Noah Naigolivia

Sharpe looked sharp and Naigolivia was strong, big win away from home
Sharpe is only 17 and can potentially still play Ball next year or 3 more years of Flegg.
I saw he went back to play for Cessnock in firstgrade after the Ball season and scored a heap of tries for them.
His defence looks weak from those clips, but you'd expect that.
I also noticed last week that Riley Jones ran the length of the field with Liam Sutton struggling to go with him (two noted speedster), but by the time he scored Fletcher Sharpe, who'd given them both a 10 metre start, had jogged up beside them looking like he was in second gear.
He's got a real Papenhausen vibe about him, and it's not just the mullet.

Looks quick. Very quick

Riley Jones named at 7 this week.
I think that completes the set for him. Played Fullback, 5/8, halfback and hooker over the season.
Tevita Toloi has gone up to reserves and Oryn Keeley is not named, but it's still a great forward pack with Paul Bryan, Cal Burgess and Mitch Henderson joining the bench.

Bryan, Glamuzina & Martin is a fair bench for Jersey Flegg.

Hope Nailagoliva can lock down that 9 jersey for the rest of the season and heading into next year.

Jersey Flegg Cup v Raiders

1. Fletcher Sharpe
2. Ethan Ferguson
3. Chris Vea'ila
4. James Johnson
5. Luke Pietzner
6. Kurt Donoghoe
7. Riley Jones
8. Max Bradbury
9. Noah Nailagoliva
10. Callan Burgess
11. Brock Greacen
12. Tom Cant
13. Jaron Purcell

Interchange:

14. Mitch Henderson
15. Paul Bryan
16. Jyris Glamuzina
17. Myles Martin

Extended Bench:

18. Travis Petersen

First time Travis Petersen has got on the Flegg team sheet. In Ball he moved this year from centre to second row and he had a growth spurt from last year. He is a big boy now.

So i'd say Riley Jones is the big improver this year in the Flegg squad.

Round 1 - number 15 - interchange
Round 2 - number 14 - interchange
Round 3 - number 14 - interchange
Round 4 - number 14 - started at second row
Round 5 - number 14 - interchange
Round 6 - number 14 - interchange
Round 7 - number 14 - started at 5/8
Round 8 - number 9 - hooker
Round 9 - not selected

Round 12 - not selected
Round 13 - number 6 - 5/8

Round 17 - number 6 - 5/8
Round 18 - number 9 - hooker
Round 19 - not selected
Round 20 - bye
Round 21 - number 9 - hooker
Round 22 - number 9 - hooker
Round 23 - number 7 - halfback

Haven't seen many full games this year and don't know his background but from some highlights he looks too big and quick to be cramped up at hooker. Physically he looks like he could excel just about anywhere in the backline or back-row even, hopefully they make a decision and let him grow in that spot rather than shifting him around constantly.

It's interesting that we have two Fijians in spine positions.
Fiji seem to struggle to fill spine positions, with Kevin Naiqama playing 5/8 for them in a lot of recent games.
I see Kurt Donoghoe has been named in the fiji extended 50 man squad for the World cup, but he'd be long odds to make the final squad I think, unless they really don't have any halfbacks to pick from.

So i'd say Riley Jones is the big improver this year in the Flegg squad.

He has stood out in the few highlights I watch. Wonderful footwork. Pretty solid ball play too

Riley Jones and Ethan Ferguson training with first grade this week. Photos on the knights site a few days ago. Think Riley will be fighting for that 14 jersey in a few years time.
