2022-2023 Summer of Cricket

The SMH is reporting that Mat Renshaw will bat at 6 for Australia and Aston Agar and Josh Hazelwood will be selected.

The wicket is expected to be a old fashioned SCG turner.

The selection of the Australian bowling attack is very interesting, we appear to be only going to select 4 front line bowlers and Agar is not even regarded as a frontline spinner. Agar has not played regularly in red ball cricket over the last few years and there will be a lot of pressure on him leading into this game. Agar’s bowling may have developed enough for him to be a decent bowler in test cricket, we shall see.

Green’s bowling will be missed in this game, I think we could really do with a third fast bowler. I’m surprised the selectors did not select 5 bowlers.

So Australia will be playing 6 tests in 2 months. It’s poor scheduling. Lucky we have plenty of talented fast bowlers.
when the future test program came out for this ashes series (5+ yrs ago) the world test championship concept wasnt in play. this will be the most compact ashes tour ever as the ECB have, like most cricket boards put the $ first. its been compacted to accomodate "the 100". an example of everything wrong in world cricket at the moment.

I'd be pretty surprised if Australia rest players for the World Test Championship final and treat it as a warm up!

No doubt they will have to rotate bowlers during the Ashes series though, that is an insane schedule. Luckily for them they have heaps of bowling depth.

The NZ Pakistan series is a pretty boring watch atm, pitches have been dead as a dodo, and even though they made it free admission for the second test they can't get more than 1 or 2 hundred for the crowd in the 20 million population city of Karachi.

It’s raining in Sydney this morning and the forecast is for rain throughout the day. Hopefully there will be a break in the rain long enough for Khawaja to score the 5 runs he needs to bring up his double century.

No rain is forecast for the next 2 days which will give the Aussies a chance to bowl South Africa out twice.

Need clear weather, bat to allow Uzi to get double and shorten first bowling session, going to be tough to get result as have to bowl for two innings straight with reduced bowling lineup.

The forecast is good, just a few early morning showers and then no rain for the rest of the day and tomorrow.

I’m really looking forward to seeing Khawaja bat.

Hopefully they don't declare overnight with Khawaja on 195! :P

Test cricket wants to die, I swear ... second and final test last night between NZ and Pakistan, series was 0-all ... NZ made a very generous declaration leaving Pakistan needing 315 on a total road in a bit more than a day ... coming into the final three overs Pakistan needed 15 runs, NZ needed one wicket, spinners on at both ends ... and the umpires come off for bad light. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Everyone wanted to stay out there and get a result, just absolute moronic to throw away a classic test finish.

Anyway ... waste of time exhausting myself staying up till 2am for ten days watching that series!

Australia will definitely bat to give Khawaja the chance to bring up his double centur.

Yep, going to need huge efforts from Cummins and Hazlewood. The GOAT will have to bowl almost all day 🤣
We will miss Green very much today, he would have been another wicket taking option.

Cummins, Hazelwood and Lyon will be under a lot of pressure. Agar needs to step up. I hope they give Labuschagne and Smith a few overs to bowl their leg spin. Head may be good for a wicket or 2 as well.

For us to win we need the spinners to finish off the tail and for Cummins and Hazelwood to stay fresh enough to rip through the top order in the second innings.

I really don’t understand why they picked Agar.
Because he spins the in the opposite direction to Lyon and he can bat. The selectors are looking towards the Indian tour.

Swepson did not perform as well as the selectors would have liked when he last played for Australia.

Head is a very useful bowler, he has shown he has the ability to break partnerships. He should bowl more.
