2020 Pre Season and Trial Games

Billy: what positions do Lucas and Black normally play? Do you know much about them?
Lucas is a guy who joined us from the South Coast somewhere last season, so some of the Saints guys might have been former team mates of his. He started last year as 5/8 in Flegg and I thought he was going OK, But Scott Dureau moved him around and decided his best position was centre. He got 1 or 2 games of reserve grade and went OK. This year he trained with reserve grade I think, but joined firstgrade a few weeks ago when Best and Moga and Tuala dropped out.

Mitchell Black is a hooker who played the last 2 years with our under 18s. Last year he made the NSW under 18s and the Australian schoolboys and after playing well in the rep games they gave him a few games off the bench of Flegg. I don't know who he trained with this year, but I suspect it was Flegg, and he came into firstgrade a few weeks ago.

Looked up Dylan Lucas to see if any of his junior mates were playing for Saints.
His junior club was Albion Park Oak Flats and the only other from that club in the game was Adam Clune, but he's 5 years older.
Found a funny post on the Albion Park Oak Flats rugby league facebook page where they've put up a photo of Dylan in his game strip yesterday and him as a 6 or 7 year old in a full Knights strip, so he probably joined the Knights from Wollongong because he is a lifelong fan.

I think they'll pick about 24 for the second trial.

It’s very evident as to why we’re chasing Frizell. Dangerous every time he touched the ball, seemed like our boys were trying to impress him with some big hits. 5/8 is still a major problem as both Mann and Lino were very ordinary both in attack and defence. I really hope we don’t offer Roberts-Davis a contract, he is garbage.

Hoy again very solid at the back, definitely deserves a top 30 spot and Randall is a very good back up for Brailey, who was fantastic by the way. Think he’ll turn out as a brilliant signing for us. Was strong in D and looks fast out of dummy half.

Was great in the back row, big hit and good lines... then went to the centre position and stunk like all hell...

Mann isnt first grade at all, like sione backup at best

Was wondering what Sione s problem was and after rewatching the game I agree with you- in the back row he rushes early to initiate the tackle where at Centre he seems to remain flat footed and the 2 Dragons tries after half time was directly attributed to this situation.
Guerra is streets ahead of him in the defensive department his body blocks on Friz and Vaughan stops them dead and he doesn’t seem to rush or over commit which must give the support defenders confidence .
Most notable when He takes the heat off opposition who are targeting our smaller blokes like Pearce and Co.
After rewatching Guerra gets my vote over Si hands down.

I'm not even sure Sione ever went to centre. Hard to know because changes were taking place, but Sione spent 10 minutes trying to walk off his leg injury and trying to stay out of the way, and it looked to me that he was just standing a bit wide.
But even if he was officially playing centre, he was nursing a medial ligament injury and could barely jog.
Although i'm still hopeful it was just a badly bruised knee and he'll be OK in a few weeks.

He definitely was playing centre to start the second half.
The injury happened 9 minutes into the half when he was contesting a bomb from lino.
The Dragons scored a minute later and he went off.

The coach agreed with an interviewer that he was limping for 5 or 10 minutes and trying to walk off his injury - not 1 minute.

Watch the video and get back to me. When did the injury occur? When did Sione go off.

I'm sure the coach would agree on review.

If there were a video that showed Sione only that would work.
Since there isn't, I'm going to go ahead and assume the commentator who saw Sione limping and got the coach to comment on it wasn't dreaming it up.

It's in the video clear as day. If you're not willing to have a look because it challenges your preconceptions, we're done here.

Knightime watch the replay. It's all there. If you can find the incident before the Lino bomb where Sione was injured I'll have a look.

After challenging for the bomb you can see Sione grimace in pain, and he is limping noticeably afterwards. Before that, fine.

I saw all I needed yesterday, but will agree to disagree. Doesn't matter much anyway, Sione will be out for a while by the sounds, so he won't be playing in any position.
