Apparently we go into the pre season with only Beau Fermor in the rehab group at this stage.
I haven't heard of anyone needing off season surgery, and I'm sure Cupples would have mentioned if there were.
We will probably have 5 or 6 guys in end of season rep teams, hopefully none get injured.
We generally have half a dozen getting rehab in preseason, so a fully fit squad will be exciting.

Billy, the current u20 squad which of those if staying will be unable to play Flegg, too old, and if staying be looking for contract/Canterbury Cup.

Bradman Best and Star Toa spent all last off season doing rehab, so those are two who should improve a lot - not to mention they are both growing boys.

Saulo has gone down injured in his last two off seasons, so hopefully he'll finally put in a good one.

Moga has a chance to get his confidence and speed back with his first proper off season in 3 or 4 years, or maybe more. Going into pre season fit will be strange for him.

I think the ones who are too old next year are Croker, Huth, Russell, Talty, Hoy, Cameron, Worley, Rasiga - all the others can go around again next year I think, although a few we picked up this year like Searle, Hamilton, Lucas and Lee I.m only assuming are 19 sine I haven't heard their age.

I was thinking during my brief time watching the Panthers game that we don't have many on the injured list for this time of year and it would be good to have an off season without a bunch of players rehabbing.

O'Brien from what I read is a coach that spends extra hours on the training paddock and really puts a lot of effort in to all players, from the star to the new guy to improve their games and I really hope the squad responds to that.

As much as this season was horrible, I do hold out hope that O'Brien can bring some new ideas to the club.

As an assistant coach that is a great quality to have, I don't know about head coach though. With an expanded role, he may simply not have the time to concentrate on every individual player like he would be able to at the Storm & Roosters. Though hopefully he can really cherry pick out a few important players to work on & make better.

Danny Buderus was talking up Sasagi the other day. As a 5/8.

From what I have seen of Matt Croker, I really like the way he plays.
    Any info/stats on him @Billy?

Andrew Johns said the other day that we need a big, running 5/8 with good defence.
That sounds like a description of Simi Sasagi to me.

Was about to ask what type of 5/8 he is and you just answered. I’ve never seen him play. Can he pass and kick? How far off from FG?

They didn't do stats for under 20s this year - or not published ones - but he was pumping out big numbers in under 20s 3 years ago.
He is a very smart and skillful prop with a big motor. He could be a bit bigger, but he's as big as Glasby or King.

    Thanks.
Is he over 20 for 2020?

I've only seen him in under 18s last year.
He got very little time at 5/8 because we had Jock Madden, who was player of the year for the entire Ball comp, as our crafty little 5/8.
He played most of his games as a number 14 and they'd send him on as a centre, wing, half, 5/8, lock, hooker or anything else, and he'd cause havoc with his powerful and elusive running game. I can't really say how his playmaking skills are, because all I've seen is him running around or over anyone in front of him and smashing guys in tackles.

Yeah - 3 big years of under 20s and done. He played some reserve grade this year and had very good numbers in at least 1 game.

So we've all seen Best and To'a play now.
So who's team Bradman and who's team Star?
Bradman is bigger, younger, faster and stronger, but the most important skills for an outside back are speed off the mark and sidestep, and Star has Brad covered for both those.

    I think Brad - he's a freak.

My observation from a very limited sample size: Bradman Best.

Although I hope that they both enjoy long and distinguished careers at Newcastle.

Braddy has raw talent. Star needs to work on his running technique. He could be a lot faster!

At the moment I feel like with the way things have gone the 6 jersey could be Lino's to lose with his goal kicking coming in useful. I still expect Ponga to work on kicking goals but I really enjoy Lino's technique.
