2019 Test Series: Australia vs Sri Lanka

A very good all round performance, Cummins brilliant fielding very good, batting OK to good, let's see how we follow it up in Canberra with maybe one or two changes for experience, lets rest one or two and give some others a chance.

It was looking bad at 3/28 but Head and Burns have put on a 75 run stand to have Australia 3/103 at lunch

Head is 39 not out and Burns is 46 not out

We are scoring at almost 4 an over so hopefully these 2 can go on with it

AB got it right early batsmen did not respect bowlers. Harris and Ushman got ourt to terrible slashes at 2 foot wide of the off stump balls with inadequate footwork. Now over the 100 run partnership. Burns has been a rock like an old time opener.

Just saw one of the Sri Lankan "fast" bowlers bowl a 115klm half tracker. Last time I saw that in test cricket was Dougie Walters trying to buy a wicket.
Not even a club standard bowling attack.
Glen McGrath just said he was itching to get out there to bat.

Great stuff from Head and Burns though it must be said there was alot of **** poor bowling

From 3/28 to 4/384

What do you guys think....500 and declare or aim to bat until after tea which makes SL bowl in excess of 140 overs ??

Finally someone passed 100, well done Burns and Head, bowling was ordinary, fielding was ordinary and chances for dismissals missed. Both lucky to make ton but at least they went on with it, Like Burns and am starting to like Head.
500 should do it then declare and hope our bowlers produce the goods better than they have.

Bat on and on. Who knows what this pitch will do if the game goes beyond the third day.

Joe Burns deserves special praise. Apart from his own score, Travis Head went through a very rough spot when on the devil's number ~ 87. Swing and misses at two balls in a row lucky not to get an edge. Third ball found the edge and straight to slip where it was bungled. Joe constantly talked to Travis

Australia have declared at 5/534 with Patterson 114 not out and Paine 45 not out

Good declaration I think, Rain is forecast for Monday (80% chance of rain) so that may have played a part

Great to see Patterson score an 100.

We now have some test batsman who are in form.

Mark Waugh is right, Khawaja should be omitted from the Ashes series so he can have some time away from the game. He is a easy wicket at present.

Good day for Australia, Those late wickets really helped

Thoughts with Dimuth Karunaratne as well, Hope he is ok

Assuming Warner makes it back and Smith overcomes shoulder surgery, one would think Harris and Khawaja would miss out, but make the touring party.

Both Smith and Warber have had elbow surgery.

My 11 for the Ashes would be:

Warner
Burns
Patterson
Smith
Labuschagne
Head
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Richardson
Lyon

The others I would include in the ashes squad are:

Harris
Pucovski (if fit)
Tremain
Worrall
Holland

Great 1st session for Australia taking 4/92 to leave Sri Lanka at 7/215 and still trailing by 319 runs

Good to see Starc taking wickets and bowling some serious pace

That didn't take long, Sri Lanka all out for 215 and still trail by 319

Starc end up with figures of 5/54 from 13.3 overs

Australia are going to bat again

Daniel Worrall featured today in discussion on Foxtel. AB thinks he is the natural strle of swing bowler needed in England similar to Terry Alderman.
