So I read a rumour that if true should see one player removed for life, several suspended for at least a year and at least 2 resignations from administration and coaching. Also hearing one particular player will be applauded as a hero in when said and done, because refusing to play with the instigator ever again at any level. It will also be interesting if Indian Premier League will accept this player and suspended players and ICC/CA back up because if don't nothing that is done will be worthwhile unless those 3 groups back up whatever the integrity bloke suggests

Am a bit shattered by all of this, was a Smith fan long before captain, hard to believe that anyone in that position would attempt such a thing, I believe whole team/squad new as well as the coach. Suspensions, sackings and fines will result but damage will last a long long time.

Ball tampering is considered on the lower end of offences.
I,ve been searching punishments for ball tampering. Faf Du Plessis got a fine. Michael Atherton got a fine. Sri Lankan fast bowler in 2017 got a 75% match fee fine.
Worst case sanction seems to be 1 match suspension.
I don't like that this happened, but I think the whole national shame thing is over the top.
Everyone else gets a slap on the wrist for this.

Just to elaborate

The punishments handed out last night were from the ICC and typically ball tampering is not seen as a high level offence

CA Is yet to hand down their punishments which could range from a fine to termination of CA Contract and Life Bans

Bancroft was correctly charged under law 2.2.9 which is "Changing the condition of the ball in breach of Law 42.3 of the Laws of Cricket" which is a level 2 offence

Because it's a level 2 offence it carries a maximum of a fine of between 50-100% of the applicable Match Fee and/or up to two demerit Points

Once you rack up 4-7 demerit points you cop a 2 game ban, If you rack up 8-11 you are looking at anything up to 4 games from memory

If you rack up more than 12 you are looking at a 6 or more games on the sidelines

This was Bancroft's first charge therefore he hasn't racked up enough demerit points for a suspension yet whereas Smith has

What I don't get is why Warner, Bancroft and any other player involved wasn't hit with the level 4 charges which are the most serious

2.4.1 Conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game
2.4.2 Conduct that brings the game into disrepute

Because if they hit them with much higher penalties than others have got for the same offence it would be denial of natural justice and they could easily overturn it in court and claim damages for lost income.
