2018 Test Series: Australia vs South Africa

Let's not kid ourselves all ball tampering is premeditaited no matter what and should be dealt with more sternly than in the past but not as sternly as this, bit over the top, somewhere in between would be adequate. The current bans on Smith and Warner, 12 months is actually for much longer as far as test cricket goes, they will not have played to show form for selection in touring teams during our of season making selection impossible, most likely won't play until grade cricket starts in late 2019 unless opportunity comes in India, again most unlikely. All the bans, fines etc on the 3 I agree with except the bans on playing, should be somewhere around 3-6 months ban, that is still harsh by previous standards on top of lost revenue.

Lehman is as gutless as Warner. Get rid of him. He is either in on the cheat or failing his job miserably by not controling the dressing room. The fact he has stayed quite the whole time shows his true gutless character.

The bans in my opinion are sufficient. This was a premeditated act where they brought a foriegn object from the dressing sheds onto the field to help carry out the plan.

Bit different to someone using a fingernail in attempting scruff up the ball. Harder to prove it was a premeditated act or in the moment stupidity.
There is no degree of ball tampering, fingernail, dirt in pocket, mint lolls, biting ball, sandpaper all tampering but those caught got a game or two not 12 months.

Yes there is. One is quite clearly premeditation while the other could easily just be spur of the moment idiocy.

A guy could have no premeditated thoughts of tampering with the ball but then gets given it with a little natural scruff on it and decides to make it worse where as on the other hand you have this situation of premeditation.

Premeditated occurances definitely deserve a harsher punishment.

12 months is way too long.

I hope Smith takes legal action and has his ban reduced.

It’s a very sad day when the Australian Cricket captain is reduced to tears. It’s been a horrible week for our cricket team.

12 months won't fly.
The stupid thing is that no umpire will ever charge anyone with ball tampering again if they think the hanging judges will give them 12 months. You'll almost have to take an angle grinder to the ball to get pinged if a year off is the penalty.

It’s a train wreck.

The team which is playing today must be emotionally devastated.

The only one to not face the media is knucklehead Warner who encouraged Bancroft to be dumb and do this.

Warner has a lot of questions to answer. It is a very sad state of affairs when a player is ostracised by his own team mates.

Thankfully we will not have to put up Warner’s toxic behaviour again.

Lehmann resigning was the right thing to do

The positive to come out of this whole mess is that we now have a chance to rebulid and fix our culture
