2016 Off Contract

I think the Saifiti's will be better than Rochow by the start of 2017 They have come so far so quick they are very motivated and its not like Rochow is a world beater .They may not be to where Hargraves or Scott or Tamou are in 1 year, but they are on they're way . Rochow will never be that good and although I rate Rochow more than most on here no way would I pay overs to keep him and I think by next year 1 of the twins will take his spot anyway ....

I think we're getting abit carried away with the Saifiti's they are totally unproven at this stage. I hope they end up being superstars but they shouldn't be a priority signing at this stage. A priority signing should be a proven performer who has played good consistent football for us. Someone like Rochow.

"You've got to know when to hold'em
Know when to fold'em
Know when to walk away
And know when to run"

Every now and then you have to take a punt. I'd be tying up the Saifiti's for a few years and hope they keep improving.

Yep me too and ar'nt we taking a punt on Rochow that his back is all good now . I would like to keep him but if he is offered more than what we are paying him now then let him go ...

Pretty much this.
While the Safiti's may have some potential they never really dominated the lower grades and they are unproven in first grade.
I see Rochow as a Knights future captain. He runs good lines, tackles well, has a decent offload. And unlike the other forwards in our team, he doesn't make many mistakes and give away silly penalties.

The Saifiti's are far from a finished product.
They are 19, and probably less experienced at football than most of our NYC squad.
It might be 4 years before we see them at their best.
It's very easy to get carried away with their potential though.
They tick all the boxes - size, strength, fitness, attitude, brains - if we could find 10 more like that we would be looking good.

This is what we do but, throw heaps of money into our young prospects. Mullen, matautais, uate. Works 20% of the time, every time.

Mullen would have gotten the same money as we have paid him , at any club , the Matautia,s are fullfilling they're potential they are still very young and all will play first grade this year , Uate was a world beater when we signed him to a huge contract and most fans were yelling pay him anything to stay also the Saifiti's should be a priority signing imo.

That might be fair to say before this year. Brown's stance on Tapine and recruitment would suggest we're moving away from that.

How do you know? No other club has ever made an offer to Mullen. To the best of my knowledge only one other club has shown a passing interest and that was Cronulla. And Cronulla are so incompetent they can't even win whilst "performance enhanced".

I know I'm probably just going to get dismissed as a Mullen hater I genuinely don't think if he was on the market he'd get an offer from any other club and I've felt that way for a long time. Thus my feeling and others that he is being, and has been paid, overs.

Problem is though Brown is just one man fighting against a club culture and fan base that behave and believe otherwise.

I know Brian Smith is a polarising figure, but he had much the same stance as Brown, and I can't help but worry he'll be abandoned like Smith should he continue to make the same hard decisions which frankly need to be made.

Certainly hope not. Like how he's going about it

Parramatta went after Mullen, smith didn't get abandoned he simply got a massive offer from the roosters two years before his contract was up and lost the respect of the playing group for it. He had to go

If no club in the NRL has gone after Mullen, I will actually walk from Sydney to Newcastle in a peniis suit...

So Joel Reddy seems to find clubs, but Newcastle arguably best player for the last, however many years, hasn't been offered a contract in a league where quality halves are lacking.

Wat.

Ragnor knows mate. Just like he knew that Brown would pick Lamb over Mullen for Round 1 due to Mullen looking sad at the season launch.

I can't remember Mullen ever being off contract, the Knights have always extended his contract well in advance. With the lack of quality play makers in the modern game I could guarantee you a fair chunk of clubs would be going after him if he were released

Brown is doing the complete opposite of Smith.
Smith picked up every reject in the NRL in the hope that a few of them would work out.
He virtually replaced our entire under 20s and reserve grade squads with rejects, and got about 5 decent players - while destroying a generation of local players.

Brown has been very, very selective in picking up 4 or 5 young guys he thinks have potential to fill gaps in our roster, and so far they all look like good signings.

It took 10 years to repair our lower grades after Smith destroyed them.
Brown seems to have our lower grades producing great young players, although it's early days still, and he is also buying very astutely, while Smith would sign anyone for a few games at least.
