2016 Newcastle Knights Headshots

Most prominent pair of ears seen at the club since Steve Crowe.

Honestly looks like they could be father & son.

Our current crop of front rowers could learn a lot by pulling an old tape out and watching a bit of Crowey. He had more guts, and ran harder than blokes twice his size... Typical Scorpes junior!!!

They added a lot of NYC headshots today - several of them are still SG Ball age, but the SG Ball players are all in the NSW under 18s training squad I think.

From the ones they have;

Matt Cooper - NSW under 18s squad and NSW under 16s rep
Ken Tofilau - NSW cup player last year
Braden Robson - Australian rep and training with firstgrade
Mathew Faitotoa
Moa Uta
Brock Lamb - aus rep and training with firstgrade
Jack Cogger - aus captain and training with firstgrade - nsw under 20s squad
Daniel Saifiti - training with firstgrade
Tom Starling - carlsen medal holder and made every rep side since he was 14
Jayden Butterfield - made every under 18s rep side last year
Jacob Saifiti - training with firstgrade
Brodie Jones - made every rep side for years and I rate him our best junior if that counts for anything
Faitotoa Faitotoa - one of our best last year

Jake McNamara - our best hooker last year (if you don't count Levi)
Kurtis Dark - made every rep side for years - cousin of Boyd Cordner
Ryan Glanville - got some big shoes to fill
Mathew Soper-Lawler - never seen him play but I keep hearing he is a big guy who is pretty good.

The two guys who should be there and aren't are Ben and Sam Stone.
Might be Roosters now methinks.

Here is the tip - Brodie is an absolute gun! A players player, hard worker with genuine talent.
Here is our future Knights captain.
You heard it here first!
One player we cannot let be taken by another club.
I fair dinkum rate him as the next A Johns (in terms of influence he has on a team) out of Cessnock!

Stick your head in enough scrums and you will look like our 'rogues gallery'. Broken conks, fractured eye sockets, torn lugs, scars on the melon, missing teeth. Not a pretty sight by career's end.

How come league players don't end up with cauliflower ears anymore?

The biggest question mark over him is what position he should play.
In 2014 he had a great season at prop, winning a national title and playing for NSW, but he also scored nearly a try a game with his great running game, and switching him to second row and then running 5/8 last year worked well too.
In 2015 he played under 18s for NSW a year young as a second rower, and I thought he was close to the best forward for NSW - the only one who held his own against the big Qld pack.
He should play under 18s for NSW again this year, and being already 104kg, he could play any spot in the forwards.
He seems to have everything - size, strength, fitness, skills including playmaking skills and even a bit of a kicking game - he even kicks goals.
I think they'll probably use him as a second rower in NYC this year, but by the size of him, he'll probably end up a really skilful prop in 3 years or so.

Because our scrums are not proper scrums anymore, they are a just a 'lean' now.
I prefer to think of them solely as an opportunity for a set play.

Anyone on here who plays footy any let off a ripper fart in a scrum? [emoji40]

Many times. Better trick was use Brylcream and a little pepper in the hair!

Biter gets bitten of course when one starts to sweat lol!

As Lefty says Defender scrums are no longer packed tight. From time to time in State of Convenience the drone gets an overhead shot and the only one packed in is the #9. Second row lean in at a 45º angle, lock barely puts head near the scrum and props ready to break left or fight.

I'd like to see it removed. Really what's the point besides a breather and set play

lol Treadly we could always try line outs. They are so decorous to Union with fellas grabbing their mate's arse and hoisting him into the air!
