The 2011 test was fantastic, great crowd, great Sunday football atmosphere, it was party central when hometown hero Uate got a double, almost triple, on debut & future Knight Boyd got a double (at that point we loved him & thought he was gonna be a gun). Was a raging success, I've been waiting for the next time we got seriously considered again for a test, we've proven we're up to the occasion.

Yeah thought it'd be due to be played in New Zealand.

But as a Novocastrian would love to see it. I'd be there with bells on

Haha, I hadn't even thought of it being played in NZ, we got it twice in 19 years, I don't expect we'll get one ever again (with only two years left, I think).

I just have such bad memories of the last Aus NZ test at Hunter Stadium, I don't want a repeat! :P

The atmosphere when the test was here in 2011 was probably one of the best I've seen at Hunter Stadium, we have the perfect capacity and the hill just adds to it. I remember getting shivers when they played the national anthem.

North Queensland and Newcastle should be the contenders. While I do believe it would be good expanding a test to Perth, the capacity would seem a bit amateurish imo.

Awesome news! The 2011 test was a cracker and the crowd number was huge. Should be a good one.

Anybody know when tickets for the ANZAC Test go on sale?? Nothing on the NRL web site or Ticketmaster

Darren Lockyer added to Australian selection panel in Kangaroo overhaul

AUSTRALIA’s rugby league selection panel has been overhauled to include one of the greatest players of the modern era, former Test skipper Darren Lockyer.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the streamlined panel of Lockyer and Bob Fulton will take the Kangaroos into next year’s prestigious World Cup in Australia.

Fulton and Lockyer will be appointed ‘lead selectors’ of NSW and Queensland respectively, with both states also providing a further advisory selector.

NSW will name Bob McCarthy, while Queensland is yet to appoint their second selector.

The entire panel is expected to be finalised within the next fortnight before Australia’s one-off Test against New Zealand in Newcastle on May 6.

ARL Commission chairman John Grant will be chairman of selectors.

Essentially though, the Kangaroos team will be run by Fulton, Lockyer and new head coach Mal Meninga.

Fulton is an Immortal and Meninga and Lockyer are locked in a two-way fight to join him, with the ninth Immortal to be announced later this year.Previous Test selectors Allan Smith and Des Morris — both from Queensland — have been moved along.

The previous Test selection panel was Fulton, McCarthy, Smith and Morris.

The changes come as part of an extensive review into the Kangaroos’ operations, initiated after a Four Nations final loss New Zealand in 2014 at Wellington.

The Daily Telegraph can confirm Lockyer has been formally approached and will accept the highly-regarded role.

An NRL spokesman said the final make-up of the panel was still being finalised.

“As part of the review into the Australian Kangaroos, there have been a number of changes to enhance the Kangaroos program, including the appointment of Mal Meninga as dedicated coach,” the spokesman said.

“Following the review, there have also been changes to the selection panel.

Both NSW and Queensland have nominated one lead selector each.

Bob Fulton will be the NSW nomination while Darren Lockyer will be the Queensland nomination.

They will sit on the panel alongside the chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, John Grant.”

Fulton’s legendary status, coupled with Lockyer’s contemporary ideas, places Australia ideally heading into the Four Nations in England after this season.

It is unlikely that either Smith or Morris would become Queensland’s second selector.

The NRL is working with QRL officials to nail down the right candidate.

Grant will be chairman of selectors but his input into which team is chosen would be minimal.

McCarthy has been a stalwart selector who has impressed current players with his knowledge of the modern day game.

Melbourne’s Cam Smith will lead the Kangaroos for the Test match at Hunter Stadium.

Sport Confidential: James Tedesco shapes as Kangaroos Test bolter

WESTS Tigers star James Tedesco is shaping as a good old-fashioned bolter for the one-off Test against New Zealand at Hunter Stadium on May 6.

And North Queensland’s Michael Morgan is being discussed heavily as a bench utility.

Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga is still nailing down his Test team but there could be up to six changes from the side which lost last year’s mid-season Test against the Kiwis 26-12 in Brisbane.

One possible shock omission may be Sharks and NSW skipper Paul Gallen, who didn’t play last year’s Test.

Tedesco has been brilliant this season and may force his way into Meninga’s side.

Darius Boyd would switch to the wing and Greg Inglis into the centres.

Test winger Alex Johnston will struggle to hold his position, while the Aussie bench may also be altered.

Luke Lewis, Trent Merrin and Nate Myles will certainly be considered — but won’t be guaranteed selection.

Parramatta’s Semi Radradra will be considered for Johnston’s wing spot, while Andrew Fifita is another bench contender.

He may not admit it publicly but Queenslander Meninga knows he will have to select a fair share of NSW players to avoid an interstate political storm.

Although difficult to omit, Gallen is no certainty for selection despite being assured he will lead NSW in this year’s Origin series.

It is understood Meninga and one team adviser Darren Lockyer have already pencilled in Broncos captain Corey Parker at lock, Gallen’s position for the Test.

They’ve told insiders that Parker is their preferred candidate because of his second-phase skills and ability to create try-scoring opportunities for his backs.

Gallen has not played for Australia since 2014 but was hoping for a call-up this year after a two-year hiatus.

One of the Tests he missed was played during his brief suspension for the use of banned supplements.

Well it seems Big Mal has poured cold water on that and said there'll be no debutaunts. So looks like the usual suspects will be picked. I still fear the day of an all Queensland Kangaroos line up
