2013 Holden Cup U20s Thread

He and Levi have swapped positions today.

Our Holden Cup team is always terrible. Hope we pick a decent bunch to fill in for those leaving NSW Cup next year.

I've gone off Tuha.
I thought he looked like he would develop along the lines of FaiFai Loa after some good runs early in the season, but he looks worse every game now.
Levi is only 17, so he could be anything.
Clydesdale is more and more taking on the playmaker role, because no one else is up to it since Rouse has missed most of the season.
At this stage the only guys I would like to see in reserve grade next season are Pat, Clydesdale, Tapine and Hill.

I've never rated Tuha if you go back through my posts on this thread, he's had 1 good game in the several I've seen. He has some good footwork and a bit of speed but he lacks so many other skills and size.

Roose had a shocker today too which isn't like him.

They're the only ones I'd take up to reserve grade too right now Billy. The first 3 you named are brilliant players with really bright futures.

The only players I rate from our 20s are Clydsdale, Pat, Tapine and Pakau.

Mamo and Levi could turn out really good too, but the rest seem pretty average.

Our depth could be a bit of a concern next year if we don't keep the Mata'utia brothers and a Tetevaon or Frei (hopefully we keep both).

I like Steele... he reminds me of a Ben Hannant. But overall, there is way too much ill discipline in this side I lose interest.

NSW Cup is a much better source for us, other clubs find stars from 20s, but not us.

Have only made the finals once since comp started & that was only 8th... would have to be the worst strike rate in the Holden Cup.

Also how many players have gone from 20s into NRL for us and not playing a game in NSW Cup?

Clydsdale?
Mata'utia?
Natusch?
Beau Henry? (Originally Dragons 20s)

Hardly is a pathway really.

Our players of the year are elsewhere as well (Cook & Anderson)

For such a large junior base I can't believe at how bad this side has gone since the introduction of U20's especially these last couple years with the amount of money being pumped into the juniors. Anyone know who the talent scouts are at the club and how often they get out to watch junior games around the area?

I think Roberts and Clydsdale are the only two who have jumped from NYC to firstgrade for us. Sims only had a few games of reserve grade inbetween.

In the old days we had plenty of guys go into firstgrade at an early age - Snowden, Tahu, McManus, Quinn, Buderus, all guys who hit firstgrade in their teens, along with guys like Perry, Woolnough, Johns to name just a few.

I think we should give up on under 20s and put our best guys into reserve grade when they are ready.

Michael Steele is a guy who is a steady player who improves a little bit each game. I think he is a McManus type who will do the work to keep improving till he is good enough. I'd give him a few years of reserve grade for sure, because he will rise to the challenge.

Round 20:

1. Honeti Tuha
2. Lachlan Shipard
3. Pat Mata'utia
4. Joshua Birch
5. Jake Mamo
6. Eddie Proudler
7. Adam Clydsdale (c)
8. Michael Steele
9. Danny Levi
10. Jah Pakau
11. Ben Roose
12. Joseph Tapine
13. Joe Boyce

Interchange:

14. Tom Rouse
15. Lachlan Fitzgibbon
16. Jackson Hill
17. Jordan Hall
18. Sione Mata'utia

Clydsdale to halfback makes him about the 6th we have used this year - De Saxe, Rouse, Widders, Proudler, Levi, Oakes - maybe more i've forgotton.
Good to see Rouse back, but I don't think we can make the finals now, so it doesn't make a difference.
Sione at 18th man must mean he is injury free and ready to start making an impact - at 16 he equals Tyler Randell as our youngest NYC player if he plays.
Levi at hooker is another big move for the future. The 17 year old could be our NYC hooker for the next 3 years and he looks pretty talented.

Why would Clydsdale play halfback with Rouse back? Proudler can go and at least have Rouse and Clydsdale in the halves. Probably giving Levi as many games as possible as Clydsdale will be leaving the side at the end of the year anyway. Excited about a possible Sione Matautia debut. I really don't know why we don't go better with some of the players we have in our side...

I don't know what has been wrong with Rouse, but I assume he wouldn't have been able to train properly and won't be fit for 80 minutes - only reason I can think he would be on the bench - and Levi is probably not up to 80 at hooker - so I think Rouse will play some halfback and Clydedale will go to hooker.

Sione was ment to play this week but may not now due to his school game on wendsday. His taken a while to play 20's due to school footy.

Mate has there been any further developments on where the Mata'utia brothers will end up in 2014? Cowboys have been mentioned in past so just curious as to if we are any chance or not of jagging 1 or 2 of them.
