2012 recruits

The titans have put to much of their salary cap into the centres instead of the key positions. I still think the titans will miss the top 8 because they cant fix the five eigth position and the forwards. If they can fix those problems i would rate them. The sharks have taken a massive gamble on their roster due to todd carney and a lack of forwards. If carney mucks around he will be gone and then who do they replace him with in the middle of the season? Also their entire backline needs to be fired and recruit better players especially the fullback position this is why they have only made 1 finals series in 5 years soon to be 6 and also it is not biased to think that newcastle have the best recruitment and think it would be impossible to argue otherwise. I mean look at who we have signed adam cuthbertson, timmana tahu, Kade snowden, alex mckinnon, robbie rochow, danny buderus, darius boyd plus the resignings of very promising juniors including zane tetevano, ryan stig, sam anderson and peter matautia, mark wade and the signing of wayne bennett if any of anyone can name a team better than newcastles next year i will be shocked. The knights only off contract player is korbin sims anyone know where he is going or if he is staying?

Am I the only one who rates the Sharks next years as dark horses?

Some promising young players in the halves (Townsend and Kelly) who will pair with Carney. Nathan Gardner and Matthew Wright will finally get good ball. They picked up Gibbs and Taufua and a very very promising player in Fifita, they'll get De Gois back who if he stays healthy we all know how great he can be. All held together by Jeremy Smith and Paul Gallen (who may or may not move into the number 8). If you ask me they have a pretty good roster.

If Carney fires and De Gois stays healthy, they'd be a top 8 side for sure.

They lack FG standard outside backs, until they sign some quality in that department it will be yet another 13th - 16th finish for them IMO.

Carney fired at Easts because he had quality all around him and a good coach that eased the pressure. He had a former golden boot winner at fullback, a rampaging Kenny-Dowall who got centre of the year and some other fast, strong and skillful outside backs who chimed in and made his job easier. In the halves he had Pearce taking control and organising making his job easier, also Anasta giving them balance and structure.

The Sharks have just lost two of the best front row fowards in the game and replaced them with Taufua who couldn't even hold on to a spot in our 17, Fifita likewise and Gibbs who has always been rubbish. To add to that they have NO quality centres or wingers and a fullback who has been plagued with injuries this year and a drop in form, lastly he has no other quality halves to take the pressure off him.

I'd like to see the Sharks make the 8 for their fans and loyal supporters but just can't see it happening.

I respectfully disagree with you about them not having good outside backs. I saw the cowboys sharks game last year (i think it was that one) where Gardner got injured and Wright had to step into fullback. The guy ran it back at full pace every kick return a la Cooper Vuna...he's brave and relatively solid and really underrated. Stapleton isn't really a pushover either. Albert Kelly has a lot of ball playing talent and if he becomes consistent he'll be an excellent partner for Carney.

I guess for them, as a team, they're in the same position as we were last year. They'll be determined by team form, and if their star players fire up then they'd beat anybody. If people get injured or they underperform then they'll be like the Sharks of old.
 
I heard he was off contract from zero tackle and also i couldnt find anything to say he resigned even on here! Would you happen to have a link.
Also the sharks recruitment was okay but they have signed players that no other team wants for example andrew fifita left tigers because of adam blair.
They have most of the forwards dont get me wrong but their outside backs are an absolute disgrace compared to the rest of the competition and the spine is lacking in the 7 and 1 positions and it looks unlikely that it will change. Also their coach isnt anywhere near the top of the competition and personally i would rate jimmy dymock as much better.

If the sharks make the top eight i will be absolutly shocked.

Also would love Daine Laurie to sign with knights and also think he is the last person newcastle are trying to recruit. please correct me if i am wrong. Also anyone want to take a wild guess at our salary cap? your guess is as good as mine. I'd say around 4.25 million of 4.4 million.

No link but during Round 19 of this year, in a Foxsports broadcast Brett Kimmorley revealed Sims had agreed to a new 3-year deal with us.

I think they have the most underrated 1 in the competition in Gardner. In form, he finds line breaks on kick returns better than any fullback in the game (no exaggeration) because he tends to be small and fast enough to run around kick chasers. He just hasn't really been the same since he broke his leg or something last year. And Albert Kelly has the makings of a good half if he becomes consistent and stays healthy. He's a lot like Sandow in unpredictability. Just wait for Gardner and Kelly to play behind a firing pack. You're right though, on results Flanagan isnt the greatest coach but he did engineer some good victories last year.

You guys just have to watch Sharks games a little closer

Who here actually watches Sharks games? PGF is right, if the Sharks fire next season they could very well be the dark horses.
 
I certainly don't have any problems with the quality of their outside backs. Gardner is a gun!
 
The sharks are okay but their victories are mainly based of a gun forward pack performing at their peak for example sharks vs dragons. It also shows that when their forward pack is not firing they struggle massively. For me to rate them as dark horses would require a back line that has at least 1 dangerous side of their back line. Also consistency is what separates the good players from the average one. Honestly i have more faith in titans making the top eight than the sharks. Sorry:(

Don't think Gardner is really that good, was decent in his first year and struggled to get into any sort of form after getting injured. Some of their own supporters even wanted him dropped this year and thats saying something.

You only have to look on Sharks forever, most over their even admit that they're outside backs (Centre's and Winger's) would not get a go at any other club.
 
I love how you place so much importance on what other teams supporters think.

They're numbskulls, if they had any sense them they'd support the Knights!

FYI, some Knights fans hated Andrew Johns at the peak of his powers ...
