2011 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

Maybe Mullen & Mateo might be good. I've changed my mind, lets go for Mateo, a potential premiership halves pairing in that.

I say give Con Mika more First Grade games this year, he seems like a good potential player, i mean he scored on debut with an excellent set - up at that and not many can do that.
He seem's like some little George Carmont or something like that.
You never know.

ImO you guys should go after Mateo or Lewis....2 very good players who can cover many positions

i think we should buy inu

Why?????

Cooper Vuna, Aku Uate, James McManus, Wes Naiqama, Kevin Naiqama, Junior Sau & Peter Mata'utia......

Why fill a spot wnen the spot is already filled with more QUAILITY TALENT then him!!!

Mateo could fix a problem in the halves

Mateo wouldnt fix a problem in the halves. Mateo is a special type of player, where they dont really follow specific position guidelines. You could put him at 5/8, but he wouldnt exactly play the game 'like' a 5/8.

To fix our halves problem, we need a halfback who is consistent, and can take pressure of Mullen, especially in the kicking game, I cant see Mateo doing that. Scotty is the player who can take the pressure off the kicking game, however he is too much of a liability in defence, and isnt much of a threat running the ball. Ben rogers is the opposite, sound defender/good running but doesnt have good enough (or consistent enough) kicking game.

I think all it would take to solve the halves problem, is a jeff robson, scott porter mold player. Someone who can easily give 25 tackles a game (without missing many), provide good support in the kicking game (in porters case excellent), and wont break the bank with their salaries.

Might be worth taking a punt on young Marc Herbet if the raiders choose to keep McCrone over him. From what ive seen he is a decent defender, and isnt afraid to rack up the tackles. Havent seen too much of his kicking game though, as Campese pretty much dominates that, but the raiders seem to always score from kicks against us.

Another option is too take whoever the eels discard out of Jeff Robson or Kris Keating, as long as they can keep Mortimer, they will no doubt have to get rid of one of them.

Mateo doesnt play to a structure and I think would fit in quite well in any side. Has a good offloading ability but sometimes may push a pass one too far. Id sign him because he has a good all round game IMO.

yeh precisely my point, but until mullen proves he can be a dominant half on his own on a consistent basis i wouldnt be buying mateo, unless you play him at lock, where he has a roving role, but our backrow is pretty stocked atm, and i'd prefer a hilder type workhorse in the backrow.

He'd definately be a good replacement for simmo if he decides to hang them up at the end of the year.

8. Tolar
9. DeGois
10. Housten (if Cross leaves too)
11. Taia
12. Mateo/Paterson
13. Hilder/Mateo

14. Paterson/Hilder

Losing two internationals, its still a extremely strong forward pack. And Hilder would be the eldest and he is still a few yrs short of 30.

Buy a another solid prop or two, A 150-200k halfback like i mentioned before, and a class centre, and i think that would make for an extremely good side in 2011. With Simmo, Maddog and Cross all possibilities of leaving this year, or definately going on reduced contracts, I think we could see a little spending spree from the knights, similar to 07.

It's easy to break a contract  If I were Benji I'd wanna sign up for life too.

Yeh, if the player agrees to it too, or if it has an injury clause in it. If Benji does his shoulder again, and is told by doctors to hang them up, he could still have a number of years left on his contract, and if the club isnt protected and wants to cut him loose, might have to give him a substantial pay-out.

I'd have thought that if he was forced to retire because of injury, he'd just stop getting paid then and there. I can't see how Wests would be liable to pay for his whole contract.

Well i heard today he is guarenteed a job after he finishes, so i guess if he retires, he'd still be getting paid anyway.

BTW, is offering jobs post retirement legal under the salary cap. Like no doubt clubs have done things like that under the table before, but this was made public. Whats stopping clubs going if you sign, when you retire we will give you 500,000 a year for peeling our oranges.
