Justin Holbrook discussion

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh, not sure about this, any reason why we had to rush isn't he here until the end of 2028 already? I mean not as if people rush off and poach coaches and plenty are 1 hit wonders.........

Reeks of Newie doing Newie things.

I understand the concern after what we did with AOB, but this is a different situation imo.

Holbrook can clearly coach, and would start getting clubs enquiring about him. If they throw a big offer at him and we sit back and say “we’re in no rush to resign you” you run the risk of losing him if he feels unappreciated.

Great news.
We just had our most successful season since 2001.
Players are obviously happy and buying in.
Ponga has turned into a true leader.
Hopefully this helps other players extend knowing he is staying (stability).
This year they played a brand of football that is exciting to watch (haven't seen that for years).

Storm, Roosters and Broncos will be looking for coaches soon.

I think knowing who your coach is for a lengthy period of time benefits retention and recruitment, players would be more keen to go to a club if they knew a great coach would be their for a lengthy stay. Holbrook is also a proven high quality coach if you look at his record.

Are you serious @Grandpa Joe!
I remember when they extended AOB after 23 and felt is was too early.

But it’s a no brainer, Holbrook can coach. The dude just took a team from wooden spoon to a GF! It will be OK boys.

The majority of the team will be locked up during that time, it is an incentive that trickles down the road in enticing players to play for the same coach that got them to a GF, those that are in between contracts then.

Best Knights coaches are former Knights players!

Well AOB had the top 12 finish contract clause! Hopefully we’ve moved beyond that kind of madness lol.
Even fans of other teams were amazed at the results in such a short turn around wondering WTF was Adam O Brien doing with similar players in key positions.

The coolest thing for me is being able to score those long range tries. Super frustrating last year needing to wait until we're at the goal line to score 10-14ppg. Analytics may say it's unsustainable or a fluke but we've always had the strike players to pull it off. You can't take your eye off anyone on the defence.

For the record I am not against Holy, who would be, just no reason to rush into it.

97% works a treat but why risk it when we didn't need to.

Joe you were just really unhappy about the club not doing whatever it takes to keep O’Sullivan, and now you want us to try the treat em mean keep em keen approach with the most important guy to our turnaround?

Coach poaching definitely isn’t as common as with other positions as head coaches in good situations tend not to take the risk of going somewhere else, but it does happen. Seibold and Cleary within the last ten years.

If you think he’s the right guy you make it clear how appreciated he is. We are chasing long term stability. The top coaches at stable clubs get a lot of job security and big salaries.

Imagine on the other hand if he went to Brisbane with O'Sullivan, Broncos are tired of Madge, and likely will be replaced soon. Holbrook is a shiny new toy who has done well. It is indeed smart to show our admiration, and from all point of views he will not be a dud like O'Brien. Also cheaper to give him a contract now instead of later as there is a salary cap on staff as we know.

Look I don't see the necessity, but I won't lose sleep over it and long term probably right move.

Big difference Sully moving and Holbrook for mine, Holbrook has a roster peaked for a premiership, and improving year on year for next 2-4 years.

It’s a smart re-signing and just reward for what he’s done here. I really think with the additional teams, and already perennial battlers like the dragons, tigers, eels, there’d be plenty of teams willing to throw big money at Holbrook. We just lost POS for that reason.
Given the players that have all just resigned, it gives good stability among the team with the coach also signed up.
At the end of the day, will have to see what happens in the long run, but really there’s no excuses now. Players and coach have all agreed to deals and up to them to move forward and deliver. To me u can’t blame the knights administration for wanting to continue this strong environment Holbrook and the players have created.
