Was in Legian for the Panthers game and it was wild. Postponed my flight to be in Sanur for the GF. Looks like I might be watching from the streets as every seat in a restaurant that has sport on TV is sold out.

The article talks about him being in a battle with Matty McEwen and Jaylan Bishop for the hooker spot in Ball last year (and I admit I was a Matty McEwen fan), but for me the turnaround was his great performance in the city v country under 18s, where I thought he was best on ground, and then the big turnaround was getting a firstgrade pre-season and improving about a million percent as he took to the training like a duck to water.

If you read the article, it just seems he suddenly got better this year for no reason - but it was because he had an opportunity to train hard and he is one of those guys who takes to training well.

Not a non zero sum game.

This is a lose lose scenario. There is no one side wins by the punishment of the other for their actions.

Fans anger, the mob mentality, tends to ignore the human element and human cost on both sides.

We have no idea about this kid behind the wheel, no sense of whether they are a bad egg, or some really nice kid who got carried away in a moment of insanity, it is what kids do, make dumb decisions without thinking them through, prefrontal cortex yadda yadda....

Unfortunately he will learn that every action has a consequence . No sympathy from me

People keep saying he is a kid. He is 18, thats an adult. He is allowed to vote, have children, and is meant to be a useful member of society.

Mate, not sure if he is even a Newcastle fan. All of his social media are Sydney related, and very arrogant/bad looking media. I do not think he got carried away, I think he was just trying to show off and failed badly as a p plater. Extremely reckless driving occasioning grievous bodily harm/death. The two year old died before being resuscitated, hard to tell if they will ever be the same. He tried to drive off while a child was under his car...

Yeah, our sympathy either way does nothing to change the situation hey.

Ah well. Gonna have to block it out and compartmentalize, think about the game, If this were not loosely connected to the NRL it would be an isolated tragedy and people would still watch footy for what it is...which is another reason I hope the NRL do not try introduce this before the game, I think it is tactless to do so in the circumstances.
 
Holbrook tight lipped on whether or not Diesel starts… which makes me think he starts…

Anyone know how tall he is? Pheonix is listed as 6ft. He seems about the same height as Dylan Brown in one photo… who is also listed as 6ft, but Diesel looks quite stocky?

I’m not too worried about his nerves. He’d be nervous on debut, and he’d be nervous in a GF. May as well get them both out of the way at the same time and lock in!

They would have loved it.
The rest of us tragics who have been hanging on for 25 years are in the happy position of knowing that even if we miss out this year, our young squad will be in the mix for another 5 at least.
