NRL Round 18 - Knights Vs Dolphins - 4:05pm Sunday, 5th of July - McDonald Jones Stadium

we have lost 1 game since anzac round, by 2 points in melbourne, won 6 from our last 7, aloud kp to not backup after origin and have one of the healthiest rosters in the comp at this stage of the season, things arent that bad people 😊.
Sure we need to improve in a few areas but at this stage of the season we are doing everything we need to be doing, good teams get it done when they arent at their best and we are doing just that.

At least all fans regardless of who they are supporting will have a common enemy in old mate Wyatt…. Has to be the most inept referee in NRL history.

I think another game for Sharpe at FB he will be better. Expecting another breakout game from him. Also that pairing of Brown and Sandon again is building also. I don’t know I just have a feeling we will put in a big performance in this one at home.

You reckon Gagai can contain Farnworth?
Fuller and King will make a thousand metres through the middle.

Surely Sharpe at 6, no change, Hunt or Votano are 1 and McCarthy in for Best is preferred option.
Sharpe is our obviously preferred 6 why change, better than Smith. If we play Sharpe at 6 then you select your next best 1 to replace Ponga. Same goes for Best replacement especially if Hunt is 1 then that leaves McCarthy in for Best.
Happy with Smith at 14 as Sharpe and Crossland have him covered.
Stats from last weeks Cup had McCarthy well ahead of Hunt. McCarthy has runs on the board as centre where Hunt has been moved around while being hot and cold, let him settle in a position and learn his game

I don’t think anyone can fully contain Herbie, just have to limit him as much as possible. That’s not just on Gags either because Herbie runs everywhere including back through the middle. Agree, them going at us through the middle is where I’m expecting trouble and where we are most susceptible.

In what metric? Smith has more try assists, more line break assists, got more drop outs, more line break involvements…

He is a better defender and runner but to act like he is better as playmaker is proven wrong statistically.

I’d rather have Sharpe at fullback as he is easily our second best fullback, Sandon is great and bring Kyle in.

Simple

I feel the whole Sharpe to 6 experiment was not based on his skill in the position but purely about getting him closer to light things up, because our halves couldn’t do anything last year.

They probably weren’t expecting just how good Smith actually is

But we have two genuine guns in Smith and Brown so we no longer need people like Sharpe in close because even out wide our halves will get them all the ball they want especially with our style nowadays which see the centre and wings gets plenty of touches.

With Gagai leaving and Sharpe showing how good of a centre he is a back 7 of
  1. Kalyn Ponga
  2. Dom Young
  3. Fletcher Sharpe
  4. Bradman Best
  5. Greg Marzhew
  6. Sandon Smith
  7. Dylan Brown
Now that’s a premiership winning back 7 and keeps Hunt in his specialty position of 19.

Sharpe and players at the back need to get into position to catch the high balls and not let the ball bounce like happened when Sharpe last played fullback. The Dolphins won’t give us the same latitude on Sunday.

Are these stats when Sharpe is playing a full game at 5/8 compared to when Smith is? Or just in general? Could tell a different story.

In general they play totally different roles in the halves anyway. Smith handles all the general kicking when he plays, is more of a playmaker and more first receiver. When Sharpe is at 5/8, Brown takes care of all that. Sharpe’s much more of a running 5/8.

It makes a statistical comparison a bit meaningless, in my opinion.

Their win rates are both quite good? But even then that would be skewed a bit because Smith had some games without Brown and Ponga to share the load. They are both going well.
