NRL Round 18 - Knights Vs Dolphins - 4:05pm Sunday, 5th of July - McDonald Jones Stadium

McCarthy outplayed him easily in cup and by far has a better defensive record I mean it toke what 4 games from Kyle in first grade before he missed 1 tackle?

You can like him all you want that’s your opinion, we have never won any of the three games he started at centre and he is a pure hype job, but I guess we will find out against the Dolphins where he will be marking Jake, I’ll be paying super close attention this time and try and find this super ultra talented player that has yet to show up.

But hey I might be wrong despite everything else point that way, like I said I’ll pay super close attention to just him this time.

Oh and let’s not forget last time he was named centre the actual coach himself pulled him to the bench for Sharpe who at that time played zero minutes as a centre in first grade… ringing endorsement
Like I said I dont understand this way of thinking.

Well if you say so James, I worried now also. You are braining the tipping comp right now. Do you know what your position is overall?
Weirdly since I’ve had the wife living with me for the last two years, I’ve seen the least amount of NRL ever, I really only get a chance to catch Knights games atm. Yet I’ve always been terrible at tipping, and the last two years I’ve become great! It doesn’t make much sense. Probably illustrating my football observational skills are absolutely atrocious tbh, the less I watch the better! 😂

But I’m 72 out of 11,366 in the Knights tipping comp atm. Only 1,110 in the entire NRL one, not sure how many are in that. But I do see the guy leading the overall NRL one is in the Knights one too, good to see a Knights fan in number one spot!

The team doesn't have an attitude problem, you don't have the whole team chase back a length of field break and line up on the try line by the play the ball with an attitude problem.

Our attack will work if we do the fundamentals right, predominantly hold the ball and respect possession.

Our defence is already passable and we do need to improve a little with that. Dolphins will score points no matter our defence so the key to this is holding the ball and executing.

This really should be a high scoring slugfest. It will be if we are up for it, or it could be a heavy defeat if we aren't.
Actually thought the final 20 on the weekend was really good from us, too. Only scored the 6 points, but we took control for that period and played some good footy. If we can replicate that for the whole 80, we will be competitive.

For years we've struggled when we are favourites and lift when we are underdogs.
Just one game I'd like to see us destroy a bottom of the table side.
We did, against the Dragons (rd 10) and Titans in the 2nd half (rd 11). Ponga hasn't been at his best ever since the origin period started, as has most of the team. It's night and day the way we play when Ponga is playing at top form. I think he will lift post origin and hopefully we can recapture our best.

We finish the season on minimum 34pts unless we completely **** the bed. More likely 38 if we stay injury free and don’t excel.
We'll find another 8 points minimum. Given how tight the top 8 is, that likely won't be enough to play finals. If we play well and have some luck we could end up with 12-14 points which will situate us close to if not in the top 4.

So there's not much between failure and success from here.

We will finish in the top four.
This team has the energy to control its future.

There’s no doubt we have not been playing great, but I feel like we could click. We created quite a few opportunities, just didn’t nail them. But it’s in us. I’m sure we will see a game where we put a lot of points on. Can we maintain consistency, that’s what we are building towards. Kind of see comparisons to the 23 run in us.

Let's revisit my comment in a month and see if you can understand my line of thinking then
We have Souths, Sharks, Roosters, Broncos, Raiders as well as Sea Eagles and Warriors to finish our season. (1 bye left)

Even if you're happy to get 1/2 out of those last two games, none of those teams in our run strike me with any sort of fear whatsoever including our matchup with the Dolphins. We are 4-3 on the road, with those tough losses to Storm and the Roosters.

If Holbrook isn't telling them to aim for a top 4 finish I'd be disappointed.

I think Broncos are gone. Although we do play them in Brisbane. Souths at full strength (if Latrell is back) will be a hard game. It is a tough run home. Only Raiders, Titans are I would say easier games.

Yeah that's going to be a big end to the season for us. Playing our best football, we can win all those games. Playing the football that we've played in recent weeks we could drop the lot.

Here's hoping that the drop off has been a bit of mid season fatigue plus Origin disruption and that now we're coming down to the business end, we can dial back in. As long as we don't fall off a cliff and can even win just half of those games, that will be a great learning curve for the team, this will toughen them up and show them what it will take to do anything significant in the finals.

Its hard to know how we are likely to respond to the challenge because we're only 18 rounds into this journey with Brown, POS and Holbrook etc.

We may have come as far as we can this season. Young and inexperienced guys have had to do a lot and our experienced guys have had to do a lot for that reason also. JSaf, Lucas and Crossy must be absolutely exhausted. Our halves seem to have lost a bit of focus.

Their desire is strong. But asking them to compete with forward packs with 4 x JSafs each week isn't really fair or realistic when we're in the business end of the season.

Even if we completely fall away, if we've already hit our peak for this season, Im happy. Because this season was always a beta testing season considering that we entered the year with 16 solid first graders in our top 30. Come the same time next year that number will be closer to 20.

Agreed. I’ve said for a few seasons that 27-28 was where we start to become contenders. I think we’re over achieving this year in parts - not complaining!

I'm looking at the upcoming draw for our final nine games and feeling similar ... there's a lot of tough games in there, and we could easily end up dropping out of the eight if we don't improve pretty drastically.

But - seasons are full of ups and downs, no teams ever really play at 100% of their potential for the whole year. Hopefully we are up for things on Sunday and we can start to enter another strong run of form. We've kept winning during our drop off, so that's a positive ... and feels like we can't have wasted much mental or physical energy on these games, so we shouldn't be feeling burned out. But we do need to take a big step up from the last few weeks. The top four is there if we want to take the opportunity.
Yeah it’s definitely not an easy run home. Winning this weekend could actually prove really important.

Don’t see a Top 4 finish but a Top 6 is achievable, if they can play themselves back into some better form. Only just realised they have a bye in round 27. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing?

It’s hard to gauge where they’re really even at. The fact that the draw isn’t even, byes are randomly dispensed, and one third of the season if affected by Origin it makes true form hard to grasp.

Did they jump out the gates and nab some early wins because the attack surprised everyone, helped also by the rule interpretations at the time, plus a lot of day games?

Is their latest form where more of a real reflection or just a bit of mid-season slump and they’re playing down to the opposition? I mean they’re still winning and doing that despite not playing well is still important too. Not every game is going to be a top class performance with such a long season.

Shame this game is Origin affected as it would’ve been a very good barometer on how they’re really going?

6th spot is most likely based on the run home for most teams I reckon. Our F/A doesn’t help. Not a bad run home and only miss top 8 if we play like we did last year.

Haven’t been to a home game in many years, but I do believe that there is stuff all seating that you will be safe from the rain apart from the nosebleeds. Correct?

This is correct. But if you can get the front section of said nosebleeds it's still good viewing
